CP and SFWOA featured in Sunday Paper Articles

Cedar Fair (Owners of CP) CEO Dick Kinzel was profiled by the Plain Dealer the largest Cleveland Newspaper. Ironically, he says his biggest regret is not buying Geauga Lake 6 years ago.

In the News-Herald, a smaller paper circulated East of Cleveland, there was an article about the memories the author had about Geauga Lake and the Big Dipper. According to the article the Corkscrew is still at Six Flags, which thats news to me. And he writes about the current nostalgic atmosphere at Six Flags. I'm still puzzled by that one.

Im glad that CF didnt buy GLP, whatever CF wouldve called it would have a morgan hyper, a mine train, wild mouse, maybe a B&M inverted, a boomerang, still have the corkscrew, but the only good thing, the cedar fair reputation, becasue of one park the whole chain is loved.

I would have liked it better if Cedar Fair owned Geauga Lake. Of course the park wouldn't be huge because that wouldn't be good business for CP. But I don't think CP would kill the park they would still keep it small, but they would advertise CP in GL like crazy if they did own GL. If CP owned GL I bet the Corkscrew would still be there. And a Vekoma wouldn't be anywhere in sight.

At least it would have kept its original name. Which is better, Geauga Lake or Worlds of Adventure?...Why couldn't Six LFags name it "Six Flags Geauga Lake like Darien Lake?

Because Six Flags can't handle any nostalgia at all.

As much as I hate Six Flags and their filthy park, it is in the best interests for the amusement park junkies like me that Cedar Point has some stiff competition. This will ensure that Cedar Point continues to install the wildest and most insane rides anywhere on the planet. The competition will do just that! As for SFwoa, keep building those sub-par coasters and running the park like idiots, Cedar Point will then be forced to build more and more awesome coasters like Millenium Force, just to bury SFwoa!

Ok I have to say something about the complaints about Six Flags. Way back, before Six Flags got bought by Premier Parks, they were a much better company, and their parks had high standards and great people there, this is when Time Warner owned them. The people were friendly and helpful, and they still are that way, at least at some of the original Six Flags parks(by this I mean the ones they had before Premier). Now they got bought by Premier Parks, that company decided to take the Six Flags name for themselves. And it seems that these parks that all of a sudden became Six Flags parks are the ones that tend to ruin their rep. And it is all parks previously owned or bought by Premier. I will admit, SFGAd, is not the cleanest, but the people where not bad. SFNE was a very nice place, clean and well maintained. Some of the ops where a bit...lets say not the best, but otherwise a pleasant place. I have not been to SFWoA yet, or any other park that was not an original SF. But tell me, am I right? Is it the former Premier Parks that are trashing the Six Flags rep?

SFNE was not a Time-Warner park. I'm pretty sure it was a "Preimier Parks" amusement park. But for the most part, I agree with you. The issues I have with SFWoA and SFA I do not have with SFGAm, SFGAdv, or SFStL.

Someone e-mailed that article to me (still can't find it online). It sure does reflect what I've been saying about top-down management influence. The article mentions Dick Kinzel picking up trash. Yes, a CEO of a publicly traded company who isn't too good to something like that. Is it really any wonder that you see employees at all levels doing the same?

Now which parks do we know could stand to learn from that?

Just so you know I see our GM's and such always out picking up trash on a daily basis. Before and during park operation hours. So its judt not a Kinzel, Cedar Point thing. I've even seen Costa walking the whole park the dust pan and broom in hand for hours at a time.
