How does Texas Giant compare to Mean Streak?

Im making my first ever trip to SFOT at the end of this month so basically Texas Giant has my attention but Ive heard Mean Streak is quite bad and also was built by Curtis D. Summers who bult TG also how does this compare? Is there also a brake on the first drop?

Isn't Mean Streak a mirror image of Texas Giant?

You know...I don't know the answer to that question...I do know that Mean Streak is certainly well named. It is a very rough coaster, although I actually prefer that sort of thing. I haven't ridden Texas Giant, but I have heard the coaster has gone through several changes since being built, and lost a major portion of track a number of years back. I have also heard that the TG rocks, so I wouldn't be too concerned over that change. In regards to Mean Streak...each his own, but I pray daily that CP will pay a lot more attention to this quickly aging giant, and give it the TLC that it so deeply deserves. Open your eyes CP. Your huge woodie is dying right before your eyes...:(

Mean Streak is not a rough coaster. If you think that is rough, go on Twister II at SFEG and then you will feel that Twister II is the roughest coaster.

I've ridden both coasters this year and I enjoyed Texas Giant much more. I found Mean Streak to be slow, boring, and lacking any sort of intensity. The trims were on so hard on the first drop that it seemed to nearly stop the train and we barely made it around the first turn. However, Texas Giant was fairly intense and rough in a fun, out-of-control way. The finale was the best part, whereas Mean Streak's finale is very slow and anti-climactic. I'm not sure how two coasters that appear to be so similar can deliver such different rides, but it seems to me that they do.

I have ridden both of these coasters and I like TG for its intensity and I like MS for its view of CP and Lake Erie. They are two different rides. TG is more intense.

How could the train barley make it around the first turn? I think you are exaggerating.. just a LITTLE BIT! When I went on it in June 2000, the trim brake felt like nothing and the train made it passed the first turn.

I rode Mean Streak last week and was disappointed. I expected a lot more. I'm going to SFOT Monday and Tuesday so I'll be able to tell you more on Wednesday but I've heard the Giant is great. Look for a update on Wednesday or Thursday.

The coaster is 165 ft high. I am disappointed by brake as well, but still the drop is at least the equivalent of 140 ft. The trim brake is only existant towards the very front of the drop. I still wish that the brakes were not there during the drop. Maybe we should start a coallition for "Mean Streak, Lift the Trim"

i havnt been on many wodden coasters in my life, im more a steel guy, but to me , the mean streak wasnt a rough ride, in fact i thought it was fairly smooth. maybe it is just because i been on the predator at SFDL and that ride is ROUGH.

I LOVE the Giant. Rode it last on tuesday. Was running very smooth. It is a very tempermental coaster. Can be very rough or smooth. My advice is to only ride in in the front seat of a car. Back seat will rattle your insides. It really is a blast. Only 1 area of trims I notice, and it doesn't have much effect. Midcourse it comes to a complete stop, but except for the stopping part itself, the stop doesn't effect the rest of the ride. The ending is great, you FLY right to the end.

The Giant must have improved alot because when I rode it in May it was "slow, boring, and lacking any sort of intensity".

I rode Mean Streak about 3 years ago and swore I would never ride it again, made my back hurt real back it was so rough. I have been told it is much tamer now. I rode Texas Giant last month, and although it was very enjoyable, it was very rough also. Not so rough as to hurt, but 1 time a day was enough for me!

I don't think that Mean Streak is really that rough as long as you ride it correctly. The trims have been grabbing quite a bit on the first drop. Last time I was there I rode with a person who had never been on it before and he thought the train wasn't going to make it up the hill, of course it did.

I have ridden Mean Streak several times over the last few years, but only once this year (late June). Maybe I just caught it at a bad time, but the trim was significantly stronger than I remember it from previous years. Saying that it barely made it around the first turn may have been a bit of an overstatement, but it was a very slow turn compared to my rides last year. If I recall, the train wasn't fully loaded on that ride, so that may have had some effect as well.

Try riding the Giant early on in the day. IMO It seems to get rougher as the day goes on.

Mean Streak is way better than the Texas Giant. IMO, I didn't like the Texas Giant. It was way too rough. I don't see why everyone likes the ride so much. I has high expectations and was let down.

The difference between The Texas Giant and Mean Streak is as different as night and day. The Giant is awesome, fast, rough-&-tumble, wildly twisted turns, airtime and the "magic carpet" ending is simply breathtaking. Mean Streak is a watered-down version of the Giant with all the intensity gone, those are Dinn-Summer's words, not mine.

Both rides are rough, there is no denying that. But The Giant had me comming back for more, MS had me running for the door. (the exit door, that is)

Texas Giant was built first. A year or so later, the Mean Streak debuted. Mean Streak is sort-of a larger footprint version of Texas Giant, but this shouldn't be taken to mean that their layouts are identical. They have similar swooping turns and such.

Texas Giant is a true three act ride, with a widely loved "magic carpet" ending. Mean Streak, IMO, lacks a good third act (lacks a third act, period). Modifications to TG over the years include trims on the first drop (not as noticeable as MS') and the removal of a double-up in the first act of the ride.

Personally, I really like TG. It can get very rough, but usually debuts each season with extensive retracking to smooth it out. MS could be so much better, but Cedar Point just tames it down. I think Blue Streak is the superior wood of Cedar Point.
