Marky's proposed bill
With dumb a** Marky proposing a bill for stricter safety regulations, will this slow down the number of roller coasters built and their advancment? Because with this bill, roller coasters that are too intense for the GP, will not be allowed to be constructed. I'm sure this will also slow down the coaster race for the highest, longest, and roller coasters with the most inversions. Already, Goliath is blamed for the cause of a woman's death awhile back and Marky will use this as apart of his strategy to get the proposed bill signed. Also, Marky will be able to manipulate the GP during his campaign for them to NOT see that Goliath was NOT the main cause for that woman's death. All of this is extremely aggrivating, its just like how the media blames movies and violence for school shootings (which is not even the reason for them to happen-but that is a different topic). What do you think the future holds for roller coasters if this bill is layed down and signed?

and then the federal government would tear down rollercoasters that they see to intense for the gp probably starting off with goliath and then working their way down to where all that would be left would be kiddie coasters and even then, the feds would probably say their too intense for kids. (shudders) that would be a nightmare.

I don't think this will happen...look at skydiving and bungy jumping...every year there are accidents, yet people are allowed to excercise their free choice to take the risk. Perhaps that is what parks should do...have people sound statements before hand that they are aware of the risks and take responsibility for their actions.
I think a lot of people get confused and think that this will prevent any accidents from happening at amusement parks, where in fact what he's proposing has had absolutely NO impact on ride safety and people being ok on the rides.
No one has died recently from experiencing a coaster that was "too" intense. (The Goliath woman could have triggered her problem while gardening.)
If this bill passes it could be the end of amusement parks as we know it. Don't be completely sure that this bill won't pass. Markey's office has the media's ear and the other congressmen and women watch tv. Make sure you're righting your congressperson and telling him/her to vote a resounding NO to Markey's bill.

yeah let the goverment officials have their prostitutes and their booze and their gambling.. but no coasters??.. I think we need new people in government!!!! i love my intense coasters and thrill rides!! If they try to govern thrill rides I will go to DC and protest all the fun that these big shot offcials have!!! I say lets have a big protest at DC!!!! I'M ALL FOR IT!

Markey's term ends, like the terms of all other representatives, at the end of 2002. That means he is up for re-election in November, 2002.
Markey proposed a similar bill last year, but it was never acted upon.
One way to let Congress know your dissatisfaction with Markey's bill is to simply send your representative a letter or email and urge them to vote no on Markey's bill (H.R. 1488).

As soon as you can start to rationally discuss the bill (which I don't think any of you have read) and do it without calling Markey names we can have a thread about this. Otherwise, go educate yourself before commenting.
