No wood in Nevada?

Why don't they have any woodies?

Why do you think Las Vegas is called "Sin City";)?
Well, I believe it is because no park/hotel wants one. If some park/hotel in Nevada wants one, they will get one built. Its called supply and demand, even though it should be demand and supply...Simple as that.

Las Vegas has one of the highest concentrations of thrill rides in a 10 mile radius anywhere.

Getting back to the question I have no idea why we dont have wood, it probably has to do with the heat and harsh changes in climate. I know for a matter of fact last summer at MGM they redid the "watering" system for Over the Edge log ride as most of it consists of wood and wood overlays. This allows the wood to not dry out and stay flexible.

I have noticed that in the Las Vegas area, coasters are not maintained all that well, it's just not the priority(obviously). So perhaps the thinking is that steel is much easier to maintain than wood. There was a time when the world's largest wooden coaster was going to be built there. It never made it past talking stages.

There is a fake wooden roller coaster and ferris wheel in front of the Holiday Inn on the strip!

When I was there over Memorial day, it seemed that every casino I went to on the strip had some sort of thrill ride or simulator...but no wooden coasters. As has been previously mentioned it is probably the dry heat. However I wonder if a woodie built indoor would work.

Vegas is a city of the future that doesn't seem to look to the past. Steel coasters seem to go much better with the lights and 1 arm bandits than woodies do.

evryone is forgeting about the hyper Desperado which is only 20 minutes outside Vegas. Going on it in three weeks.

bigkirby: It's not a wild mouse, it's a regular roller coster, it's atop the Startosphere tower. It's name is the High Roller I think.

Las Vegas Rocks

Yes the coaster on top of the Statosphere Tower is called High Roller. Not a fast or long ride but it kewl being that high in the air and looking down while you ride.

sethman baddboy metioned the Hyper coaster Desperado at Buffalo Bills. Nice ride seemed a little short to me

Desperado is more than 20 minutes away. Try 45 and thats in good traffic.

There are no wood coasters in Oregon either.At one time the lumber industry was one of the biggest in the nation.In fact ,a lot of the lumber used to build wood coasters came from Oregon.

i thought the MGM park closed. I went there about 6 years a go and got stuck on their roller coaster, my only walk off experience and i dont remember it!

As for MGM's theme park it is now called The Park at MGM and is only open for private functions and rentals.
