The perfect woodie, found and demolished

And there were more dips, turns, and surprises all hidden in the woods. Anyone else wish they could ride it?

How can a woodie be "perfect." That would mean that EVERYONE IN THE WORLD thinks it's the best coaster in the world. I don't like the coaster. HAAA. That coaster isn't "perfect."

I am sure that ride, while beautiful to look at and an obvious temptation, was very rough. Many years ago, coasters that were built very similar to this ride were breaking collar bones all over the country! I would probably be in fear for my life on this particular coaster. I think I will continue to be pleased that I live in a more modern age, and that the worst that may happen is overshooting a brake run.

Thanks for the pics, though. It DOES look amazingly similar, in some pics, to Shivering Timbers.

Anyway, that ride looks awesome. It's so sad that it isn't around today. :( That ride would probably put most of today's coasters to shame.

Stealth, you seem to be a classic example of somebody trying to make themselves look better by tearing others down. Stop.

As for the coaster, why haven't we progressed in 70+ years? That ride looks a heck of a lot better than any wood I've seen recently. A turnaround perched on the edge of a 500 foot cliff?! Insane. I love it.

Compressed Airhead, I think they made a typo, maybe 50 feet, but I don't think there are any 500 foot cliffs in Cleveland are there Jeff? Anyway, When I said the "perfect" woodie, I did a thread before on what you want in a woodie. Alot of you said Beast and Timbers. There are similarities in both :)
A couple 90 foot drops into ravines would be nice today :)

With the ravine drops it reminds me of the Thunderbolt at Kennywood and the bunny hops remind me of Timbers. Looks cool, but it was probebly a rough ride (although that is cool sometimes also!).

It would be cool for SWOA when and if they build another wooden coaster to build something like this (although I dont think they have a ravine) but with modern technology. They could bill it as the rebirth of the Cyclone in Cleveland. I dont think there is any doubdt that the layout of this thing looks extremely cool and if it was not a collar breaker would probebly be a fun ride. Oh well, I guess we will never know. Thanks for the link though, very cool pictures.

Actually... I don't know if 'StealthF5m3' was serious or not...

But in my opinion, I don't think that this coaster is all that impressive. The first turn right off the lift hill barely towers over the trees. It kind of looks like a standard Out & Back.

I know it was the 20's and all... so there were no giant gargantua mammoth coasters in that time, but it doesn't look that impressive. What I do like is the final drop 90 feet into the ravine... because the first drop was described as that large, and with the last drop just as large, it'd come as a surprise to me... but other than that, it just seems only so-so.

I guess it's me, but I would take a 1920's wooden Twister over a wooden Out & Back (or double out & back) just because of what they tried back then (ie: Cyclone at Crystal Beach).

I don't agree. I think the coaster looks amazing! Twisters are fun, but lack airtime. This thing looks like an airtime monster. Someone should re-build this quick!

If I recall properly the Puritas Springs Cyclone was a Miller ravine coaster, thus the resemblence to the Kennywood Pippen(now the Thunderbolt). Ravine coasters were a specialty of John Milller's.

I'm not positive about this, but I believe that this was the coaster Miller did as a response to designs coming out by the likes of Prior and Church to keep himself "cutting edge." I'm pretty sure that this ride caused quite a few serious injuries, and was closed very frequently for maintenance. It still looks like a cool ride, and those are some great pictures.

From what I have read about this coaster,the park closed in 1958 and the coaster was destroyed by fire a few years later.I dont' know what started the fire,however.There is a Miller coaster still operating here in the Pacific Northwest.The Coaster Thrill Ride at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup,WA.However,it only operates during the fair.

That ride looks great...I love how in the middle the drops go from 40 to 20 feet tall, then there is a 90 footer. :) Hehehe, it looks out of control.
