Will headbanging become history?

there is bacically NO NEED for over head restraints, Hopefully hoarse collors will become obsolete.

Headbanging will not be history until Vekoma are.

ahh, the hang and bang people!

Hey, while you're bashing Vekoma, check this out. I rode both B:TR and Medusa at Great Adventure today and hit my head multiple times on both. And Talon, which is brand new, was just as bad. Just a Vekoma problem? Hardly. Also see Arrow, Premier Rides etc.

i've never experienced head banging on a B&M, but anyways, i really think it depends on how you sit for each ride. rest your head against the back of the seat and your head won't shake at all..

I have banged my head on Raptor (I do everytime)during the Cobra Roll, and I have on Mantis alot of times, it was a night ride. That's it.

People keep saying that revolution at sfmm has some headbanging that is not true. I've been on the ride dozens of times and i never experinced any head banging, I experinced Head banging once on viper.

It depends on the person, their craniums vary. No two people ride coasters the same way which is why accelerometers & instruments used for testing purposes are strapped to the seat rather than the rider.

OTSR's become obsolete. One can hope.

some coasters have to have OTSR's, how would you like a Deja Vu with a lap bar! (no offense to anyone)

Revolution's head banging was absolutely horrible when I rode it last year, one of the more painful coaster experiences I've ever had. That ride has no business having OTSRs, with just a single loop!

For what it's worth, the restraints on Vekoma's new Flying Dutchman coaster eliminate the discomfort of headbanging. The restraints are a soft leather or plastic instead of the rigid OTSR's we're used to. You can slam your head against it at full force and it won't hurt a bit.

I personally don't mind the OTSR because my head doesn't bang nearly as much as people here say theirs does.

You know, Vekoma should just put the flying dutchman type restraints on all of their coasters. That would go a long way in making Boomerangs and SlC's smooth.

Well you need OTSR on inverteds and stand-ups so there will always be OTSRs

For me, the discomfort is not really in the head-banging, but the loss of freedom that comes with horsecollars. I can't move my arms, I can't turn my head, I can't see around them, etc etc. The ride experience is absolutely killed when a ride has OTSR's. They may as well box me up and leave a slot for my eyes. When you think about it, all these designers can use the latest technology to get us over 300 feet and over 100 mph, yet were still using a restraint system that is essentially the same thing that was first developed in the 70's.

I have no problem with B&M but of course who does but i also have no problem with Togo,Premier,Vekoma or Arrow.

Just because Premier is installing lap bars on some of it's LIM coasters doesn't mean that EVERY coaster can have lap bars installed. Besides, many don't need them. Premier is only replacing them because their rides are notorious for headbanging.

I'd think Deja Vu or the inverted rides that go "straight down" where your feet dangle would need OTSRs so you dont fall out. Anyone get where I am coming from with this? :)

No, I really don't know where you're coming from. With a little research and development, a ride manufacturer could make a lap bar for inverts.
