Best Coaster Book/Author

What's the book/author that you find most informative about coasters and parks? The book that first got me interested in coasters was Charles J. Jacques Jr.'s Kennywood: Roller Coaster Capital of the World. Also good is Robert Cartmell's Incredible Scream Machine.

I have a book called Roller Coasters by Schafer and Rutherford. On the cover it has Wild One when the park was Wild World. It has tons of great pictures on everypage and a short description of each coaster.
There is an old picture of PKI. (possibly durring construction of The Bat or Vortex) The Giant two armed ride (like the thing at Hershey) was next to the Racer and there was a giant slide too. The Flying Scooters (Flying Eagles) were located next to the enterance of the antique cars. The trees are small around the cars too. Anyway that's a pretty good book for the pictures.

My personal favorite is Roller Coasters: Wooden and Steel Coasters, Twisters and Corkscrews.

It is a huge 192 page hardcover book....it is amazing.

The new book, THE AMERICAN ROLLERCOASTER by Scott Rutherford is a must have for any coaster fan. Hardcover with loads of history and up to date enough to even include the plans for Lightning Racer, Air Thrust, Son of Beast, even S:ROS at Darien made it.

I totally agree about THE AMERICAN ROLLER COASTER by Scott Rutheford. All I could say to myself while reading it was "this guy really knows what he's talking about." The pictures are awesome, and there are a lot of pictures of older dismantled rides (Cyclone Racer, CI Tornado, and a overhead shot of Chicago's Riverview Park) that make my mouth water and make me wish I could go back in time to ride these monsters. ROLLER COASTERS: WOODEN AND STEEL COASTERS, TWISTERS AND CORKSCREWS has a lot of nice pictures, but the acutal text is full of errors. Clearly, the author of that was not a roller coaster enthusiast, but just some kind of outside journalist.
