Thoughts on the Dateline item.
First, I will say that I think they should REPORT the incidents..as some parks need to. I think anything above that is not needed.
Anyways it talked about people getting hurt on Disney rides...with 2 of the 3 being due to rider error! Ohio has laws saying you have to obey all regulations...so the rider WAS at fault.

I'd like to commend Florida Rep. Stern for his stance on amusement safety. What do you guys say, Markey vs. Stern in Celebrity Deathmatch?...:) j/k
At least they talked to the head of amusement attractions and gave the stats about getting killed on a coaster vs. getting struck by lightning, walking across the street, driving a car, etc.
I still think that Dateline has a pro-Markey vantage point of amusement rides. I think they want people to be scared of attending amusement parks.

Seriously, though, I thought the story wasn't AS bad as I'd feared, but it still had an anti-park slant. As soon as the media starts throwing out words like "claims" (instead of "says" or "reports"), that's putting a negative light on that side of the story.

I was angry with the lawyer as well. I would agree that the injuries should be reported, but I also agree with Disney that it would be impossible to come up with a system of telling what inuries should be reported and what shouldn't. If every person that got a little backache after riding a ride had to be reported, then there would be lots of injuries. Serious injuries should be reported. As far as rides needing to be inspected by the federal government, I disagree with that. The amusement parks themselves have their own inspectors. These people are very trustworthy and they are not going to let a ride operate if there is a chance that something bad could happen. Plus, I wonder of all those injuries that there are to people on the rides....how many of them are the fault of the rider, and not the park? I would venture to guess that the majority of them are not the ride's fault, but the rider's fault.

The little tidbit about it being very hard to report the injuries was very true. It was a quote from some papers, but it made very much sense.
It pretty much said that if they reported every little thing, that the media would twist it around or report it wrong, which happens all the time...whether it's intentional or not.

Totally misleading..and not a surprise. Most of the show focused on Disney, and most if not all the accidents are from rider error. A lot of the other injuries are from previous conditions where people shouldn't of been riding. Just ridiculous. No responsibility left in the world.

This piece was just a reason why parks have to display those disclaimers signs before rides. They are there so the park isn't held responsible when a rider says "I didn't know you couldn't ride Mean Streak with a back condition!" They are also there for guest protection too. People need to wake up and smell the coffee.
