Yes, I know I'm alone in thinking the Magnum is better than MF (actually, the Golden Ticket Awards agree with me!). Until recently, I considered the 2 rides tied. I love MF for the insane 1st drop and speed, but the Magnum can't be beat for sustained airtime on the 3rd hill and the airtime-filled run back to the station. The airtime on MF is good, but mostly just floating airtime, not like the rip-you-out-of-your-seat-airtime found on the Magnum. What cliched the Magnum as my favorite was my trip last week where I was lucky enough to catch a night ride on both the Magnum and MF. I rode MF first, and it was the greatest experience of my coaster-riding life (to that point, anyway). There's something about the lit up Mean Streak looking like a kiddie coaster from MF's lift hill that I can't explain. Awesome ride!
Just when I thought the dispute was settled and MF won as my favorite steel coaster, I headed over for a night ride on the Magnum, and this old dark horse came from behind and showed its newer, bigger rival just what's up. First of all, the trims before the pretzel didn't brake the train as much as they usually do, and the pretzel (especially the last half of it) just made me feel like I was twisting to my death. Then came the 4 hills back to the station. Each one is designed to provide more airtime than the one before it. Going through that section at such a high speed made the airtime insane! Violent negative G's. The overall ride possessed a power that MF just doesn't have (maybe because it is so smooth). About the Magnum being rougher. Yes, I noticed it, but I think it adds to the ride.
