What's up with Vekoma?

Is it just me or do the majority of Vekoma rides fall in the section of being 'under-par'?

Recently, they have come up with a couple of winners, such as the Rock N Roller Coaster, and the Flying Dutchmans... Other than that, what have they given us that rank up there? ... anyone?
They're coasters are usually crappy cloned rough rides.

I know I'm a whiner, but hey I've been spoiled by Intamin, B&M, and CCI...

I guess they're nice and cheap for small parks, but Arrows are fairly cheap as well.. Stealth cost 17 million. MAGNUM XL 200 cost 8 million.
You could get 2 arrow hypers for the cost of one dutchman...

Every single one of there rides is garbage!!!!! I can't see how that company stays in business. Every single one of there rides breaks down at least once a day, just think if you owned an automobile like that. You would junk it after awhile. Just look at all the Vekoma garbage laying around SFwoa, X-Flight, Minderaser, and the Serial Thriller. Each ride is junk, and I have not been to SFwoa on a day where all three have not broke down during the day, and I am a seasons pass holder and have been there quite a few times. Vekoma is junk.

I'd have to disagree with you Just Coasting...you must have a bunch of super cool contacts peppered around the world for you to know that every single Vekoma coaster breaks down at least once a day. Oh, wait a second, lets see here; or are you just talking about SFWoA, which you seem to find utterly repulsive? Hey, your opinion is your opinion, but if you don't find a Flying Dutchman at least somewhat fun, unique, or whatever; then there must be something wrong. And to the GP: there is no doubt that these rides are some of the more thrilling ones they will ever ride (that is, X-Flight).

I agree with coo man choo. Lately Vekoma has been installing some great rides like the Rock 'n Rollercoaster and Flying Dutchmans. It seems to me (IMO, of course) that if Vekoma keeps up with this current trend of great rides, they may become an even bigger player in the amusement world.

Yes, I agree that SLC's and boomerangs can headbang a lot. But remember, it is not Vekoma forcing parks to install these rides! Parks ask a manufacturer to install the rides. To the GP, a boomerang is interesting because it offers loops, decent height and speed as well as the extra effect of going in reverse.

On the note of comparing Magnum to Stealth and/or any other Flying Dutchman's prices, that is like comparing apples and oranges. Magnum, or any other hypercoaster is just like another rollercoaster...supersized. Flying Dutchmans, however, must carry along all of that extra computer equipment with them...no small feat itself.

Also, even though the price wouldn't rise that much, remember the Magnum was 12 years ago.

While I'm not a major Vekoma fan, they must be doing something right. They build over twice as many coasters as any other company in the world.

The clones offer an economy in engineering that parks can't resist. Boomerangs really aren't that bad, you just get tired of them after riding 10 or so. But, the general public doesn't visit that many parks.

The SLC would be a great little ride though a little over paced if they would just reroute the track a bit to reduce head banging. (Please?)

Vekoma does seem to have pushed into too many new things this year. They are trying to develop a lot of new technology and are having some problems with the Deja Vu lifts, plus problems with the extremely complex trains on the Dutchmen. However, when they get Batwing/X-Flignt working right, they are great rides, unique and smooth.

to me.. Invertigos and Flying Dutchmans are great addition..

Like many others, I'm not a big Vekoma fan. That said:

The boomerangs with Vekoma rolling stock seem much smoother than those with Arrow rolling stock.

Invertigos are much more fun than I imagined they would be (particularly if you try to keep your feet planted against your riding partner's feet).

Vekoma CAN make a darn fine coaster when contracted by Disney.

I've heard praise on the FDs from people normally jaded on Vekoma, so they must be getting better.

I dislike Vekoma usually, but enjoyed X-flight. However, I fear the FDs will age like the SLCs. I really hope they don't, but am not too encouraged.

I have got to say that I think Vekoma is doing a great job. They are as of now leading the way with their new innovative ideas (alongside Arrow with X). They are daring to try out completely new ideas that seem almost crazy. Look at the tilt coaster- It is extremely weird but boy I can't wait to get on one. The flying dutchman is amazing- I love X-flight. These new ideas appeal to the GP. I think they know what they're doing. Plus let me add that I thought X-Flight was very smooth and an extremely great ride. My point is that they are doing something I appreciate- trying out strange new ideas that may pave the way to future coasters.

If Every Coaster Was Rough, I'd Be In Heaven...

TogoFan, I don't think most people really enjoy rough, headbanging steel coasters. I must admit, the Flying Dutchman coasters was such a great new idea at first but...

1. It is hell getting stuck on one of those rides. The stupid ride ops keep you stuck in those full body restraints for such a long time before they let you go. If it was on another ride, I wouldn't mind it as much because you actually have some movement, but on Flying Dutchmans, you get the enjoyment of being pressed up tight against a hard seat.
2. Anyone ride Stealth recently? It has gone just as rough as any Vekoma you know of. The only plus to that is there is no headbanging because nothing boxes out your ears, only neckcracking.

I don't understand why some parks would rather get an Invertigo than a CCI woodie

God, if I had a dime every time Just Coasting called a ride "garbage" or "junk"........... Personally I think that X-Flight is some pretty nice "garbage". Why don't you stop complaining? Are you even a real enthusist?

i remember when i thought T2(a verkoma) at SFKK was awsome. When they were first built they were the best casue they were the only, it's just pl like B&M came and made them better.

Accually, TMTCC, B&M didn't come and make the SLC better. Vekoma came and made the Inverted a hang-and-bang.

Sure, as Just Coasting said, some are just garbage, like, umm... let me think... uh... Well, maybe not. Vekoma does make good rides, and they obviously are doing something right if they can sell a dozen coasters a year. I wouldn't care if SFGAm got just a boomerang instead of Deja Vu (at least it would be open by now.) They also are leading the way in new technology, maybe a little faster than they should, but they are leading the way anyways.
