Why does Six Flags use superheros for ride names?
Why does Six Flags name all there rides after Bat Man or Superman. Why can't they come up with something original. I just can't imagine a 3 rollercoasters with the name Millenium Force, Magnum, or Gemini out there. That would really suck! I mean come on lets not hype the ride up with some cartoon character. Let the ride speak for itself.
So that they can sell the same t shirts everywhere. (they dont have to make different designs) They can sell Superman 'S' T shirts at every park that contains a superman ride. They only have to make one batch of T's for ALL the clones. And other merchandise for that matter.
Other than that, I dunno.. maybe reuse footage on commercials?

Its called "marketing" and it is something you do to get consumers to identify with and desire your product. This also includes the savings in cross-park merchandising coo man chu mentioned.

Do us all a favor and throw your annual pass away so we don't have to hear it. Just pretend all SF parks don't exist and then maybe you can live a happy life on the back road to Cedar Point.

Why does everyone of those rollercoasters that feature the corkscrew need to be called The Corkscrew? I was thinking... When SF takes over the world and has a park every 10 miles, don't you think bugs bunny and batman will get a little boring? I'm sure a lot of people are already bored from it, including a lot of the GP. I have 4, soon to be 5 SF parks within a 6 hour drive from me. Maybe they should leave out the superheros with some of the parks. I'm sure they find somthing else to market as well.
StealthmF5m3, you make a good point. I myself don't find the names boring, the most boring one at SFGAm is Demon, and it's still not very boring. So what if SF uses the license they have? Isn't that why they have the license to name things after characters? To name things after things people remember? Thats what I thought they were for.
Just Coasting, I wonder, do you bash everything unoriginal? Do you bash Interplay and Activision for making Star Trek themed games? Do you bash McDonalds for naming everything "McThis and McThat"? They name things after those things because they are licensed to do so, and it helps people remember it. Why would anyone waste thier money by buying a license to name something after a famous super hero, show, game, movie, or whatnot?
Oh, and about imaginging Millennium and Magnum... There is Millennium Force, and Millennium Roller Coaster, as far as Magnum goes, Magnum XL-200 and Magnum Force. And how about Gemini? At the same park, there is Gemini Jr. Should I go and complain that CP can't even name a coaster originally, and they are so bad that they name it after one already in their park?

Six Flags uses these names over & over for two reasons:
1) They have the rights to these characters and get PAID to put these names on rides. If they call a ride "Superman" that's a whole lot of advertisement for that name.
2) As difficult as this is for many "enthusiasts" to comprehend, 99% of the general public have no idea that there are clone rides, or clone names! Most people in New England know of only one Superman. Ditto for other locales.
P.S. Why does no one complain of all the coasters named "Comet"? Why does no one complain that every damn tilt-a-whirl is named "Tilt-A-Whirl"? (Sorry. Pet peeve.)

I really dont understand why people get worked up over coaster names. Does it really bother you when visiting a park? Do you boycott all coasters named Batman and Superman? If you do, than you have issues that none of here can help you with. This "beating a dead horse" topic is now retired.
