Is this place gonna make it???
I think the thing that hurts MA so much is it's remote location. Even living in Michigan it's a bugger for me to get there since there is no straight shot across the state. 90% of the trip is on a 2 lane highway. :-( Conversly, I think the remote location also helps MA since there is no competition for it. The future is bright for the park, and the addition of some more non-water park rides will only benefit it.

I am going up to Holland, Michigan soon and was wondering if a trip up there is worth it? Can anyone help me out?

The reason MA always looks so empty, is because 75% of the people who go, are just there for the awesome water park which is like always pretty busy. There have been days ive gone when ST is a walk on, and the black hole raft slide has a 20-30 min. wait.
By the way, a trip there is most definitely worth it. For only 20 bucks a world class coaster, 3 other average coasters, and an awesome water park, is a great deal.

Um, Coaster Ed, MA is not on the way to Holland if you are coming from the south. MA is a good 30 to 40 minutes north of Holland. I just didn't want PKite to be confused. GO to MA, it is definately worth it! As mentioned above it has a great water park that is included in the $20 admission. So bring your swimsuit.

I'm use to traveling 3-5 hours and several hundred miles one way to be at a park just for the day, and I sometimes forget that not everyone likes to drive as much as I do.
To me 30-40 miles is close enough to be on the way.

Just wondering where in MI you're at? I'm in the Detroit area and there is a straight shot across the state, I-96. Goes from the Ambassador Bridge to Muskegon. Now if you're farther north, getting across the state quickly could be a problem :)
Regarding the park, it was said during TimbersFest that the park is running on a year-to-year plan, so any big improvements will take a while to materialize. I'm beginning to think the park is overextending it self too quickly. Think about it - '98 was Timbers, '99 was Mad Mouse and Big Dipper plus new gate, '00 was new slides and kiddie ride plus finishing the gate. That's a lot of development for such a small park. I think they'll take next year off to finish any outstanding projects and wow us again in 2002.

I am with coaster ed, I drove to 3 parks with 3-5 hours each way, for a single day's admission. 40 miles would be a piece of cake. If ANYTHING ever brought me within an 8 hour drive of MA (and it was open) I would do everything in my power to get there and ride The Timbers some more.

I live up in Bay City, and the only reasonable way to get there is to take 46 (or 47, I never remember till I'm on it) to 131 and then back on 46 into Muskegon. It's a real pain in the butt.

I live about 40 minutes away from MA in Grand Rapids, and I get up there quite often. My feeling from talking to the ride ops is that next year, general park improvement and possibly a couple of decent flat rides are all that can be expected after such a rapid period of growth. However, the old rumor about a morgan hypercoaster for next year is still floating around. I think that is likely to be pushed back a year or possibly even two and maybe a S&S tower added as well in the near future.
Nick G, I agree with your opinion for the future of MA. I think the hyper will turn up in 2003. If it is prior to that it would be a GREAT surprise! We must have talked to the same ride op's as they told me that exact same thing they told you. MA is also 40 minutes away for me also as I also live in GR.

iluvcp, yeah US-10 does go straight through to Ludington, but it only 4 lane till just after Clare. It becomes as much of a nightmare as 46. My mother-in-law lives up that way so we drive it every year. I think next trip I may try heading south on 75 and maybe cutting across at 69. This will keep my average speed at or above 70mph. That should help shave off the added time by going south.
Oh and another thing, what is up with the hours at that park? I don't think I've ever seen a summer schedule with odder hours than at MA.

Actually they are open 11am to 9pm for all of July and up to August 20th. Then they switch to the 11am to 7pm schedule until Labor Day when the park closes for the season. I think they have few days that are 11am to 6pm in there also. The best thing to do is call ahead and find out what the hours are that day or check out their operating schedule on their website.
I was there yesterday, and the place was pretty busy. Even if they don't have the lines like CP, They do attract a decent crowd every day. One thing I love about Michigan's Adventure is how every ride and attraction gets attention and smiles.
Unlike Cp, where the small rides and games are ignored by people. It's sad to stroll down the Midway at CP and see a lonely Swabinchen operator sitting there or a game operator trying to get someone to pay attention to him.
