Riding a non-backwards coaster...BACKWARDS!

Anybody ever try riding a non-backwards riding coaster, backwards? I've done it a few times. Scorpion at BGTB, Viper SFoG, and the biggest on SROS at SFNE. It was funny watching the face of terror on everyone as we descended 200 feet to the tunnel!

Actually, I know *exactly* what is being talked about. Basically looking behind you for an entire coaster ride. The first time I did this was on Villain with GregLeg and his sis. His sis kept telling me to turn around (she was sitting behind me at the time). I've also done it on Wild One and Big Dipper. I did it one time on Magnum the day of coastermania and had a huge crick in my neck...I didnt have the umption to try it on the Force :( Maybe if I go to Millennium Mania :)

Ohhhhh, Ok! Yea I have done that! Backseat on the Raven...Put my stomach in my throat the whole time. It is so cool to see the beams on the track go faster and faster.

I did that on the backseat of the Comet. Great Escape should Turn a couple of the cars around, it was awsome. Though, unlike Crystal Beach, they should face the two back cars in reverse instead of the first two.

I find when sitting up front on Ghostrider I tend turn around to watch everybody in the train. It makes the ride more interesting.

Actually, on American Eagle at SFGAm they turned the trains backwards a couple of times so it is not pure bull.

First of All, SFoG is my homepark. And all of the times I've been there, I've never heard anyone talk about Viper being backward, and I've also never experienced. That is BS. You can't turn a shuttle-loop around backwards, the stress on your neck during launcg would be too great. Let's keep topics honest as well as posts...

Turning around and looking at people's faces on the ride is really cool. Turning around also adds a lot to the ride IMO.

I do this every time I go to an amusement park now. I always get at least 2 rides on it every time. One in the front looking forwards and once in the back looking backwards. It kicks *** onGoliath and Ghostrider. It's really freaky on woodies. Everyone has to try this. I bet the beast would be cool doing that.

2001 the year of the California roller coaster

I did that on Villain once, last seat, and boy let me tell you my neck will never feel the same again. This was the entire ride looking backwards!! OUCH!

Actually, the let you do that on the 7-Up Shockwave at Drayton Manor in England. I saw a video of it, where a whole row of people were facing entirely backwards, and were waving to everyone they passed by!

I am actually just talking about turning around...not the entire train. It's a different feeling. And where Mindbender04 says that on Viper that's BS...I've done it. Try it sometime. It doesn't hurt. If you know the ride by heart, you know exactly what is coming up. Nothing to brace for. So...until you've tried it, don't say it's BS.

Turning your head backwards is fun, but I also enjoy doing what Bruce first suggested - turning the train around! When the ride ops aren't looking, I remove the train from the rails and replace it in the opposite direction. It helps to have a friend to distract the ops (it's easier at certain parks where they aren't paying any attention though!) Imagine the surprise of the ride ops when they see the backwards train flying into the station! The look is priceless.
You may be thinking - this is impossible! Well, it must be possible, otherwise the possibility would have never crossed some posters' minds!

I actually did ride Shockwave backwards when I was in Europe in 2002. It really, really hurt me...but I was what-13 years old then? It was a really cool experience though. Riding it forwards hurt, so you can imagine what it was like backwards! It also shows how parks in Europe operate so much differently than in the US, in Europe they are much more lenient on safety and the ride capacities per hour are so much faster.
