Tony Clark gone from CP?

Could be a total rumor but not sure if anyone else has heard something.

Wasn't aware of the absolute mountain of sh!t thrown at him by the nerds in this fandom. (Also why I don't frequent Reddit that much).

If it's true that he's gone, that's a loss. Comms people have a job, and that's to promote/protect the place where they work. Sometimes in ways that do not align with what customers want to hear. He did that job very well.

I had to lock the comments on that one. Usually, we are cool with rumors, but it felt bad speculating on someone's employment. There's also no evidence of it. r/sixflags still has their post up though.

Is there any actual evidence of it yet?

I can confirm that there has been another round of cuts. I'm not sure who is left to run the company.

I certainly hope this isn't true. If it is, it's a sad day for Cedar Point.

Yes, Tony is no longer with Six Flags. As part of consolidation to corporate Arlington, positions in marketing/pr/group sales were eliminated and/or people had to relocate to Texas. Frankly, I don’t know many people scrambling to move to Texas given our political climate.

Hopefully once the 2026 season ends we see Enchanted Parks make some decisions about staffing for the future and some of these great folks who’ve been treated so poorly by Six Flags can get back to working in an industry they’ve been so dedicated to.

If you're going to needlessly bring politics into a discussion that has nothing to do with politics, at least be right about what you're saying.

I did too, before I realized the solution was two new accounts for my ignore list.

This latest office move is essentially another kind RIF … reduction in “experienced” force. They did not offer many incentives for folks to move, and honestly those who have been around the block know this move comes with absolutely zero job security as the company struggles to prevent bankruptcy.

He’s not wrong. Funny thing is, if I ignored everyone I disagreed with politically on this site I’d probably see about two posts a month.

All I know is you don't improve your product (or continue to market and sell an already great product) by eliminating those with not just years, but decades of experience and knowledge on the product. There is so much institutional knowledge on what does and does not work at each park on the local level, not to mention decades of relationships with other businesses and organizations in the communities where the parks are located, that are just gone.

I’m not needlessly bringing politics into the discussion. It is a fact that many people in the attraction industry are part of the LGBTQ community, whom I support and appreciate their dedication to the industry. I don’t see them begging to move to Texas which has a horrible record on LGBTQ rights, nor do I see the folks with families/school-aged children wanting to uproot from their prospective park communities that may offer a better quality of life and access to quality education, where Texas is also lacking. These are facts that play into hiring and retaining the best talent possible, not politics.

What does any of that have to do with Tony Clark getting let go by Six Flags? Do you think they offered him a position in Arlington and Tony turned it down because of their stance on LGBTQ issues? You're needlessly inserting this narrative into this discussion.

Your personal lived experiences may tell you that no one is moving to Texas, but that's anecdotal evidence and subject to your own personal bias. Statistics and data covering domestic migration trends directly (and strongly) contradicts your opinion.

It's odd to me that Reilly undid the mistake of not having individual park presidents yet thinks that doing the same things with PR and marketing is a good idea.

I am part of the LGBTQ community and have been to Texas a couple times. If you visit Austin or Dallas those are both very friendly LGBTQ areas. Not all of Texas is the wide open spaces.

Austin and parts of Dallas might not be, but the state as a whole is perhaps not as welcoming to certain demographics. Millionaire business owners love it, creative types who work for a living, might not.

That being said, the initial comment that sparked this tangent was poorly worded. I for one used the three letter abbreviation NFW when asked if I would consider moving to Texas. That doesn't contradict the fact that a lot of businesses have moved TO Texas from blue states recently. It also has no bearing on the fact that once you move there for all the economic reasons, then you actually have to live there. Which may or may not work out for people who don't care for high school football or Jesus in your carpet store radio ads. Yes, you heard me correctly.

None of which may apply to Mr. Clark's situation. I am unaware, and choose to remain so, of whether he might find Texas appealing. My suspicion is that there wasn't a strong incentive for his position to move, if any at all. Even if there were (and again, I doubt there was) I would think the environment would be tough to sign up for. I mean, if they can't keep Jeff Seifert at Fiesta Texas, I'm not sure how many others are going to uproot their lives and families to move TO Texas, when the future is certainly not going to be fun for the next 12-24 months.

Now can we move on from this silly tangent?

I am well aware of the recurring political discourse around here. With the exception of a few posters, this community is largely an echo chamber of members with a very similar set of beliefs. Sometimes I agree with the hive mind here, other times I don't. In this particular instance, I'm just pointing out that this is unfounded speculation based on logical fallacies and personal bias.
