New WDW garbage cans!!!1!!

In Disneyland mythology, there is a story that Disneyland designers asked Walt if they should put up a "Stay off the grass" sign in an area where guests were crossing through, and Walt told them to add a path through the grass instead. (At the time, "desire paths" was a new concept in urban planning, so Walt didn't invent the idea.)

So if eating at a trash can is a problem, the Ghost of Walt is probably whispering in management's Mickey ears to add more tables.

That they have ignored Walt's Ghost for this long is sad.

Unless, of course, they want guests to eat on top of garbage cans. Like maybe it's in style or something. I don't know. I'm old.

How do these new cans get emptied without any plastic bags? Sounds yucky.

I think they're just swapping the internal bins. I saw a showkeeper in the Odyssey pull one, and they put a clean one in, and put the filled one on a wheelie cart. I assume the emptying process includes a wash-out.

All of this sounds like leveling up to me. They sorted garbage for years before they put in "recycling" bins, and even then, it's all still sorted, if I'm to believe the AI summaries explaining their process. My kid says they haven't been rolled out yet to MK (I rarely go to that park).

Just as they do now with the traditional cans, the internal bin is pulled and swapped with an empty bin. Trash is still sorted at a facility off site, at which point the recycling is sold so long as someone is willing to buy it. However from what I understand, getting someone to buy it is becoming more difficult.

Magic Kingdom does have some of the new cans. I have seen them in Frontierland around BTM and Tiana's.

Not sure about Florida, but in Texas there is no money in recycling right now other than metal. The plastics market fell apart years ago and you have to pay to have baled cardboard hauled.

Agreed. I don't eat on garbage cans, just OUT of them.

Plastic recycling has always been kind of a myth. Cruise Line avoids plastic bottles entirely. Everything onboard is either glass or aluminum, including the water bottles. There's single-use plastic in some of the food prep and delivery, but I'm impressed by how limited the use of plastic is. They've even gotten away from the paper cups used in the parks, using something entirely biodegradable.
