New game: Elevator Computer

I was standing at the elevators in the Coronado Springs tower (that's my on-topic tie-in), admiring the elevator system that asks for your floor before you get in, and assigns you the most efficient car. These are fantastic.

I thought it would be fun to make you the computer, and see how you keep up.

It's very rough, needs work. You can't "install" it yet, either. I'll leave it at that and let you try, without biasing the feedback.

(BTW, it's best played on touch screens.)

Really fun. I don't know how good I was at it though.

I think easy, 6 seconds is good. Medium, 9. Hard, maybe 14? My scores are all over the place there.

Fun, and potentially addicting. My only request would be a way to undo an accidental click, or reassign a passenger if the elevator hasn't responded to the request yet. (My example: I had a passenger on the ground floor and I accidentally clicked on an elevator that was on its way to the top floor. I had meant to assign them to the elevator that was on floor 2.)

The Marriott on Canal st. in New Orleans did this when I went to Mardi Gras about 10 or 15 years ago.

It was so nice and efficient, especially because all of us were staggering drunkards.

Hi

Reassigning would be tough, mostly for UI reasons and space constraints. But also, I kinda like the idea that you have to make decisions and own them. 🙂

Fun. I love these sort of games.

Can't figure out though... is it faster to load one elevator with multiple pax and stop on many floors on the way down? Or give each pax their own elevator even though another will pass them by? I haven't played enough to get consistent results.

That's the heart of the game, because it just depends. If you have to stop three times while another shaft is idle, that's definitely slower. The algorithms that the real elevators use is pretty interesting that way, and totally proprietary. My understanding is that they optimize for time and for energy use.

I added some bits to track your best time.

This game is oddly addicting

Now that there is a goal to work towards, it is even more fun!

I've got a proper domain now:

Also, the daily challenge is set up, and you can share the results for it socially. Everyone gets exactly the same game in the daily.

Oh, you can install it now, so it feels native.

Awesome game, very addicting.

Some feedback:

It's a bit laggy running in FF on my iPhone, on person or elevator select.

I sometimes have trouble selecting on my phone. Don't know if it's my fat fingers, the small screen, or something else. I prefer playing on my PC, mostly for that reason.

Yeah, the hard mode is a lot on a screen. I don't have a great solution for that. As it is, I shrunk down the other modes so the sizing is at least consistent. Not sure what to tell you about Firefox though. The unfortunate thing about any browser on iOS is that it's actually Safari underneath (except in Europe), which is not the strongest of browsers.

Understand, Safari isn't the best.

Oddly the lagginess on selecting is only when I'm zoomed in. If I don't zoom in, it's fine. *shrug*

Oh, that makes a lot of sense (for reasons not worth getting into). I do wonder... if I can figure out how to make it work, would dragging the passengers to one of the shafts make more sense, or would it be less precise? I feel like that would block your view a bit as things are moving around.

When I play on my phone I select the passenger with my left thumb, then the elevator with the right.

Not sure I would care for drag and drop.

Same. I think you miss too much if you've got fingers over the field for too long.
