Six Flags Great Adventure announces 382-foot tall Bakunawa spinning roller coaster

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

From the official site:

From deep beneath the darkened sea, an ancient serpent rises. Ascend the spire and split the sky on Bakunawa — the fastest and tallest spinning launch coaster in the world.

Inspired by Bakunawa, a legendary creature of folklore, this coaster reimagines the serpent’s coiling ascent as it attempts to devour the moon. Feel the pull of the eclipse as you launch through the world’s fastest inversion, reaching speeds up to 100 miles per hour. After spiraling 382 feet into the air, you plummet back to earth, spinning to the shore as Bakunawa returns to the sea.

Look, I'm just glad that they didn't name it something DC related.

Hi

“Washington Monument Drop Tower.”

I still think "Bakunawa" sounds like the name of a Japanese fishing village.

It's so bad, I can't even find an easier-to-pronounce, more common word to replace it with. Someone previously called it Bakula, as in Scott Bakula, who was the handsome lead actor in a show in the 90s called Quantum Leap*, but no one knows what that is anymore.

Bakula, like Count Dracula, but with a B?

Back You Lala?

Back Banana?

Why didn't they just let their can walk on their keyboard to find a good name?

"But Travis, it's the name of a dragon who eats the moon in Philippine mythology. Everyone knows that, stupid."

I'm sure the next God of War game will be based on Philippine mythology.

*The last episode of that show made me cry. Sam Beckett leaps into himself, in a bar. He has a drink with God, and God reveals to him that he had the choice all along to leap home whenever he wanted to, but he subconsciously chose not to so he could continue to help people. The episode ends like every other episode, with him leaping, but unlike all the other episodes, they leave viewers not knowing where he leaps to.

Oof! Cat, I meant cat. I hate it when I mess up a joke with a trypo. I mean typo.

Oh, I legit thought that was intentional. As in, sit their ass on the keyboard and see what name it creates.
