Last vestiges of Son of Beast to be torn down

Must have been a slow news day. But, the title says it all. I might have thought that this could have been a useful station for a future coaster, but I guess not.

It was always weird that the queue for Top Gun started so far from the ride, but then they had the weird SoB entrance. Didn't it cross over the Top Gun queue and have an entrance that was actually on the left? It's been awhile.

I can't remember the SOB entrance very well either, but I didn't think the two queues ever crossed paths. The entrances were right next to each other, Top Deck Flight Gun Bat on the left, SOB on the right, and they never crossed. From the satellite view, it looks like the exit ramps might have merged and crossed over the queues.

The SOB station has been used as a haunted house every since the ride shut down, so that's a loss.

Top Gun is like Medusa (or whatever they're calling it this year) at Great Adventure - like they built a long pathway to the main attraction, and never got around to filling in the stuff along the way. (Topography at Kings Island is a little more challenging IIRC.)

The SOB station hasn't been used for a Haunt since 2019, I believe. It seems strange that it has sat dormant for so long.

The station was probably not able to be used for haunt or a new coaster's station because it is in disrepair and the floor is falling in. If it is not being removed to make room for something new, it is being removed for safety reasons, imho.

The floor falling in was just a Reddit rumor, and only the sprinkler system is being removed.

"The demolition permit associated with the former Son of Beast site was filed as part of the process required to remove and discontinue monitoring of an existing sprinkler system in an unused structure. The permit was not the result of a safety determination by the City of Mason, and reports suggesting otherwise are inaccurate," Gorgon said in a July 28 email.

Well, I guess that means the station can still stand. Maybe make it into a picnic pavilion live Waldameer did... Or maybe it will be used for the next RMC project "Grandson of Beast". :-)

I believe Top Gun has the monorail and old animal exhibit to thank for its weird entrance (the tunnel went under the track.)

I always like to say that the Bat is located next door to KI.

I'm pretty sure what goes over the tunnel now is an access road that goes from the parking lot to Orion and other areas.

I'm guessing if they're finally tearing down the station after leaving it standing so long, it means that any hope of an RMC "___ Of Beast" project is finally dead.
