Opening rides late in the season is normal for Six Flags.

So much so that when I moved to Ohio in 1999 I was stunned that Cedar Point was able to have their new coasters available on the season opener. 23 years of living in Chicago, St Louis and Dallas had me conditioned that new coasters opening in July was normal, (because it was for SF,) or sometimes not at all, (Mr. Freeze.)
