Carowinds announces new Log Flume ride Rip Roarin Falls

Are log flumes making a comeback?

All for it but can’t help but think about the mistakes of the past on the big flumes. The turntables give me some Typhoon Sea Coaster vibes.

That looks fun, though the turntables look like something else to break. I wonder if Whitewater is doing these? Saw them at IAAPA last year.

Has this changed in any way since last year’s announcement?

It's looks to be a great addition. I'm hoping to see a few more sent to other parks in the chain. Cedar Point?

Seen on Facebook it is a Whitewater West(OD Hopkins.)

As I mentioned in the IAAPA post, they own all of the Hopkins IP. That's a great portfolio... if they can sell it.

It's really nice to see a log flume being built, rather than being removed. The world needs more of them.

That 100 foot drop looks insane.

Very nice to see a modern log flume being built. Should be a fun ride. Will be curious to see how wet you get.

Going forward, could we see more of these being added, thinking like a potential re-birth of a ride that genre that has been declining in years?

Outside of coasters, log flumes are my favorite amusement park ride. I always appreciate their uniqueness.

Sea World San Antonio added a launched log flume just a few years ago. It’s decent family fun. And yes, sometimes you can get quite wet.

Multiple points:

  • Glad to see FUN investing in a log flume. full stop.
    • Tampa could benefit from a similar effort
  • As mentioned, turntables are a maintenance concern, but they're not uncommon anymore.
  • To Jeff's point about Whitewater and "can they sell it". Well they sold it, now let's see what they deliver.
  • Has anyone seen the restraint mechanism? I can't believe that a new flume ride would exist without a locking restraint.
    • Maybe this is the key to a flume rebirth, restraints designed from the start and not horrible add-ons like Dudley
  • As always, I'm nervous when I see FUN hype theming, as that's not their strong suit, especially upkeep.
    • However, the raccoon mischief looks good

My first thought upon watching the video is that we need more rides themed to raccoons.
