Introducing TogetherLoop

OK, I pushed a manual refresh button in settings -> app, but of course you need to refresh it to see it. It looks like iOS is notoriously aggressive for ignoring caching protocols. I've read that if you totally shut down the app and Safari, it might refresh, though some folks have said they had to completely reboot their phone. When I get back in a week I'll come up with something beetter.

Just following up on the "friend dupes" but currently I have 4 or 5 of the same friend. This happened because they tried removing (or I tried removing as well) the duplicates, which go away, but then when they send another request (because it is saying we are not friends) or you re-load, they all come back. It's like we can't delete the existing and then it just adds to the count, again.

Not sure, but just a heads up.

I fed your description directly to the AI, and it found the problem. The solution was crappy, but I redirected it. This is the problem with AI, in that it trains on a world of crappy code. Still need the experienced humans. In any case, I think it should be good now, so check it out. It even did some clean up to hopefully address your dupes.

That seems to have done it! All looks good now.

Right on, thanks for testing. Will have non-invite joining soon, for a limited time.

For those digging in and using this, thank you. I have a question that I posted on there that I'd like to ask here as well:

Tagging is coming, but I'm interested in figuring out what the rules look like in an always-private network. We probably won't allow "sharing" because you could arbitrarily show other's posts to your friends without the author's permission. Tagging should look like this: If you tag someone, you're giving permission for that person's friends to see the post. That post by default will show in their feed as well, and the feeds of their friends. At any time, you may untag yourself. Does that make sense?

Do you approve being tagged? I guess it depends on the (eventual) audience for the site. There are some scenarios where you probably don't want to be tagged in something, however someone tags you and your friends see it before you can 'untag'.

So many flashbacks to early Facebook and having to untag myself from things that would get me sacked.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

Maybe an approval queue? Unlike Facebook, there is no public post option. Not sure if that matters.

Your friends have a shortcut now for joining and adding you as a friend! Go to your friend page (👤 ➡️ Friends), where you'll find a special link. When your friend follows it, they'll sign up as usual, but you'll also automatically get a friend request from them. It's a great way to get started on the Loop!

I'm thinking a lot about the friend discovery problem. The last post was about one way to help with that. I imagine that if you know a few people already on the app, one person could curate a list of people you might know. That would be in place of some algorithm that keeps suggesting that creepy guy from work to your friends. The UI for something like that could be challenging, but it seems like human curation is better.

I also like the idea of grouping friends. Not in a way that others can see the grouping, but just for you. You might curate a grouping for work, family, close friends, etc. Then you can look at a feed that is just that grouping. Not at all necessary when you have three friends, but something for the long haul, if this ever takes off.
