Unofficial Blackpool Pleasure Beach history site launched

Posted | Contributed by Rick_UK

A new website has been launched detailing 130 years of amusement industry history focusing on the story of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Founded in 1896 by William Bean, the park is operated today by his great-grandchildren.

Pleasure Beach DataBase looks back at the history of the park, its rides, live entertainment and the people who made it all happen.

Thanks for posting this, Jeff. I have put far too many hours of work into it ... turns out 130 years is a lot history to document.

I know it feels like a site like this is something of another era, but I do miss all those fan sites. I get the whole YouTube thing, but I almost always prefer an experience where I can 'explore' rather than sit and watch/listen.

Hopefully folks get something out of it.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

It's fun to post a news item for another site. It's been a long, long time since we've done that.

As an American who wasn't aware of Blackpool until The Big One debuted (taking the "tallest" claim from Magnum), it is really neat to see the depth of history for such a unique property.

Great stuff!

Added this that might be of interest to folks who like old wood coasters. I give the park a lot of credit for maintaining stuff like this but also providing this level of access to a bunch of nerds like us.

I just came back from a very deep rabbit hole, so thanks. I love the historical stuff and in many ways find the old rides so much more interesting than new ones.

I can't wait to visit the park for the very first time soon!

Blackpool was so much better of a park than I had anticipated... It's a vibe. Great ride lineup, too.
