Six Flags Over Texas announces tallest, fastest dive roller coaster, Tormenta Rampaging Run

I am pumped about this coaster and will likely visit SFOT for the first time just to ride it. Dive coasters have grown on me quite a bit over these past few years, despite me thinking they were boring initially.

But I think the bigger thing is this is likely to be the rare instance I get nervous before riding a coaster. The only time I'm fearful of a ride is when it's a tower of some kind. I avoid drop towers if I can and I still say that Wind Seeker is the scariest ride at Cedar Point. I couldn't even muster the courage to get in line for Falcon's Fury, let alone ride it.

Dive coasters feel like drop towers and the thought of looking down 300ft is insane. I thought Valravn and Griffon were tall enough, but this will feel like falling for days.

The 95 degree drop was something I wasn't expecting. That will add to the drop-factor. We're not planning a trip to Texas anytime soon, but would love to have this in our backyard.

I didn't see any fog on the animation.

218' Immelmann followed by a 179' vertical loop should be an incredible experience.

I guarantee that enthusiasts will complain that it's "forceless" or some such nonsense. The bigger the element, the "slower" they seem. I recall this was what people said about Alpengeist, with its huge inversions. (I happen to love that ride.)

Same, Alpengeist has always been my favorite invert. I also like Griffon, so this crazy tall dive coaster looks like it’ll be fun.

I may have to venture down to Texas and visit my sister-in-law next year. I had been avoiding that state for many reasons.

The layout looks pretty typical for a B&M dive coaster, just scaled up. I got a chance to ride Wrath of Rakshasa yesterday and absolutely loved it. It has some really unique elements and no mcbr. I hope Tormenta uses Rakshasa's loose article bins system. Such a fun solution!

Out of curiosity, are there any dive coasters built at a "mountain park"? I'm thinking of, for example, a Kennywood style park with something like Thunderbolt where the dive is actually down into a significant ravine and the lift hill is somewhat minimal? I can't think of any, but this would work at a place like Dollywood, Lake Compounce, Kennywood...

There's the Oblivion clone in Taiwan that's built on a hill and drops down the side and into a tunnel.

Worth the trip just to say you've been to Fancyworld.

Weird that the ride layout is cloned but the supports are completely different. I don't know that I've seen that before.

I love how the clone shows just how far into the hole Oblivion travels. It goes much deeper than I expected.

I literally just read this about 10 minutes ago. Looks like the opening of Tormenta will be delayed for who knows how long ?!?!?! Also, it would appear Shockwave is down too.

While I’m a big believer with it will open when it opens, but I think it may be time for these parks to consider starting construction 3-6 months sooner so as to meet the public expectation that a new ride opens on opening day. You have this ride, Nightflight, Sirens Curse, etc that are all opening too late. While it will make it harder to save the announcement until August to boost SP sales, they can still do it. Veliciocoaster was famously a “new churro stand” even as footers started being poured. The GP has an expectation and gets disappointed when their trip to the park happens with the new ride closed. It’s clearly taking longer to build these things, move back construction so you avoid the black eye.
