New Entries in the CoasterBuzz Top 100

I wonder what the rating distribution is across all accounts.

I probably skew high, I reserve 1's for lousy rides, 2 is generally the default for a kiddie coaster, 3's is everything else, 4 is a solid ride, and my 5's are my top rides.

Man y'all are killing me with the SOB hate. Yeah the rosebowl was a janky POS but that first drop... there's just nothing that even came close to that. Folks go crazy over El Toro but SOB was 40 feet taller than that even. Imagine Diamondback's first drop, but wooden... Ok, I'll stop now but SOB did have its fans... I rode it every visit

SoB was the only coaster I’ve ridden that felt sketch being up in the air 200 feet on wood lattice. I gave it three stars, everything after the drop was meh. I don’t really remember it being rough but I also front rowed it because of its history as being rough.

That ride always felt like a bunch of park execs got together late one night and while partying and doing lines of coke off of a hookers ass one of them exclaimed “let’s build a wooden hyper coaster”! The rest of them all got really rowdy and starting shouting “Hell yea” and then one short guy in the back screamed out “let’s add a loop too”, and next year construction began.

With that backstory I’ve always appreciated it just a little more than the average enthusiast.

Speechless.

If a ride makes me think "I wish this were over" before we hit the block brakes, it gets a 1.

So, what you are saying is RRR had ample opportunity for a 1?

Slight difference; there's not a single rough spot on El Toro, whereas there wasn't a single smooth spot on Son of Beast. Well, there was at first, but it was removed.

Yeah, I think most, if not all of us have ridden a 200 foot B&M at some point. Yet there isn't a B&M hyper or giga that isn't on the CoasterBuzz top 100, while SoB is nowhere to be found on that list. Or anywhere anymore, except in photos, videos, and memories (although my memories of it were spotty immediately after riding it, because head trauma).

As long as we’re talking about skeletons in our coaster rating closet, here’s mine: I gave RRR three stars. Which means I’ve got RRR > 21 other coasters I’ve ridden.

SOB is still dead last. Emphasis on “dead.”

Who am I to tell someone that their opinion is wrong?

That being said, your opinion is wrong.

Hi

I certainly don't remember any. Odd that that's the thing you chose to call out when there was hyperbole elsewhere in my post. Like, I'm sure there were other non-rough spots on Son of Beast...like maybe a few feet after the lift or the part between the brake run and station. Maybe.

Nah, the maintenance track was like butter, solid 5 star experience.

OK, here's a question I think only Jeff could answer (but could probably do it anonymously);

Is there any coaster in the CBuzz rankings that has been rated both a 5 by one person, and a 1 by another?

I think in all these pages of discussion, I may have seen Skyrush get some divisive chatter...

Later,

EV

I’d wager if there are any, Skyrush, I305 and Drachen Fire would be among them. For the record they’re all a 5 in my track record.

metallik just showed they have Son of Beast rated a 5, while I’m certain plenty of others have it as a 1.

I like CBuzz's system overall. I get a kick out of watching the positions change over time.

Has anyone here used the Beli app for restaurant ranking? It's fun. Instead of giving a restaurant a score or a rating you simply have to say if you like xyz restaurant more or less than others in your history, head to head.

So translating to roller coasters, if you rode Nitro for the first time and logged it, the app would then ask you "Do you like Nitro more, or Hagrid's more?" and then "Do you like Nitro more, or The Beast more?" until it logically figures out where Nitro lands in your distribution.

It's a fun exercise. On Beli it's hard because you end up ranking high-end fancy dining places against, you know, the burger shop around the corner. With coasters it would be similar because you'd end up ranking wildly different coasters with very different goals head to head. But that's kind of the fun aspect of it.

SOB made a much better sculpture then rollercoaster. That thing looked amazing, but the only enjoyable parts of that ride were the lift and the loop, the drop had you shimmying already and bruises starting on your thighs.

I enjoyed SOB's first drop. It was really good. But the bottom of that drop, and a lot of the ride afterwards, jack-hammered my spine so bad. I'll never understand why the park thought it was okay to open that coaster after it was built and tested.

Zero stars!

Touchdown:

he only enjoyable parts of that ride were the lift and the loop

The lift was probably enjoyable for the deaf and hard of hearing.
