The 59 animals of the famous Berkeley Tilden Park carousel are scheduled for a top- to-bottom renovation, 26 years and more than 3 million riders since the last one. This five-year undertaking, which began in March with the base of carousel, is going to cost about $1 million by the time it's completed. The East Bay Regional Park District is scrambling to raise the funds.
