Front-runner NBC, a unit of General Electric, is trying to hammer out enough of a basic deal to win exclusive negotiation rights before Vivendi's board meets Tuesday, sources close to the talks say. That would cut the legs from under the other two bidders left for Vivendi Universal Entertainment: an investor group led by Edgar Bronfman Jr. and John Malone's Liberty Media.
