Marineland has filed a $7-million defamation lawsuit against the Toronto Star and two of its reporters who have been covering concerns about animal conditions at the Niagara Falls theme park since last year. In a 14-page statement of claim, the plaintiff, Marineland of Canada Inc., is seeking $5 million in general damages from the defendants, Toronto Star Newspapers Ltd., Linda Diebel and Liam Casey and punitive damages in the amount of $2 million.
Meanwhile, the founder of Marineland Animal Defense has agreed not to hold further demonstrations at the home of Marineland owner John Holer, a tactic they used last year. That’s one term agreed to by MAD founder Dylan Powell as part of a recent legal undertaking with Marineland.
