Dorothy Tresness has lived on the island for 50 years, most of them peaceful. But, since the mid-1990s when the island's amusement park closed, she has been cut off from water, electricity and transportation to and from the island, courtesy of developers who were not pleased by her refusal to sell her property. So, she's carried on, living amid multi-million dollar homes being built around her comparatively diminutive dwelling. Her story is the focus of a new book
