Missouri governor, Mel Carnahan, signed a bill today that will tighten state regulation of amusement rides. The bill, one of 44 signed into law today, will require annual inspections of all amusement rides in the state of Missouri.
The bill also will bring forth the formation of an Amusement Ride Safety Board. This board will consist of nine members, appointed by the governor, to set and inforce the minimum standards. The states larger amusement parks (Worlds of Fun, Six Flags St. Louis and Silver Dollar City) will fill six seats on the board. The remaining seats will be filled by an engineer, someone from the state's fire marshal office and a member of the public.
