Zambezi Zinger at Worlds of Fun misses opening day because of "supply chain issues"

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

With only one day’s notice, Worlds of Fun announced that the grand opening of the re-imagined Zambezi Zinger roller coaster will be delayed until further notice and will not be open for Memorial Day weekend. The park cited "supply chain issues."

Turns out that it’s hard to ship more Zingers from Zambezi.

Was talking this though with my wife... If they're testing it, what are they testing without that makes it not safe for humans?

Seatbelts? Head rests? Has to be something simple.

Yeah. It’s gotta be something odd. Air gates?

Wait- no shortage of those…

A parent apparently called Governor Parson (R) complaining that a roller coaster with a Zambezi theme was a form of hate speech, forcing them to reconsider an age-requirement for riding the attraction.

From now on, Worlds of Fun will be known as Germany of Fun.

Apropos of nothing, the way they've handled the delay is really bad form.

They announced it something like 24 hours before, by which stage many heading to the planned opening were already in transit.

Problems happen, I get that, but presumably they would have known that they were in trouble a fair bit sooner.

Are they testing it, or were they testing it?

My first thought is that an uncommon part broke during testing, or they got some crazy readings on something and had to stop i.e. Maverick.

Which, if that’s the case, the park was likely not in bad form with the way they handled it. My thought was that we should perhaps give them the benefit of the doubt instead of getting mad because the new ride won’t be open when it was supposed to. Because that never happens, right? We all booked our flights, dammit.

Maybe my language here was a bit strong, but I think that a bit of contrition in their statement would have gone a long way, rather than a "we need some more time" 24 hours before.

Something as simple as "dated tickets issued for before the final opening date of Zambezi Zinger can be exchanged at no charge for later in the season" would have resulted in fewer ruffled feathers.

Just my €0.02...

They may have known but were hoping for the fix to happen in time. Had they announced something earlier giving people a chance to change their trip, and the ride was actually able to open, those people would have been mad. Damned if you do....

And there are entitled people that would have been mad regardless of any contrition or offers of compensation.

With new rides you pays your money and you takes your chances. This isn’t exactly news around these parts.

Promoter of fog.

I'm sure that gives you all kinds of credibility to correct unsuspecting civilians while waiting in lines.
