My band is either going on a trip to St. Louis or Chicago , and I was wondering , when do these parks usually open for the season? We are going in very late March , and I fear that neither park will be open. It's one of the main reasons I even want to go on the trip.

And no , I don't want to know what crowds will be like. ;)

Well since they always open the first weekend in May, I think it's safe to say they won't be open in March. Take a look at this years' calendar for reference
