Yankee Cannonball closed for refurbishment

We went out to Canobie to get some tickets during their one-day sale, and were greeted by a very depressing sign that informed us that the Yankee Cannonball will be closed for refurbishing for about 3 weeks... :-( Anyone have any idea what they're refurbishing? It looks like they've given it a paint job, the trimmings that were yellow on our visits last year have been repainted red. It looks sharp!
At Eastcoaster in Allentown, GCI mentioned that they are doing a project on the Yankee Cannonball to add magnetic breaks in the station, while keeping the original skid breaks. How they're gonna do that I don't know, but at least they are trying to keep in in as much original condition as they can.
I loved the Yellow though, That was like its trademark, well this is depressing...I hope they dont add trims or anything, because that ride has the most airtime of any coaster i've riddin!

Without trims, the ride should be the same. I'm not sure how breaks work, but couldn't the fin pass in the middle (near the chaindog and anti-rollback) and the skids some up on either side? Also Mike, you may have liked the yellow (and the pictures do make it look pretty nice, esp. the tree in the turnaround, I've got to get there some day) but maybe a mix of red & white was to be more patriotic. I don't understand why they would wait until they open to do work on the Cannonball though, unless their own crew is doing the work and were working on Starblaster which makes sense.

Off with the trims!

Hello, the ride is trimmed on two parts already. The turn after the first hill has trims and the turnaround has trims. Don't exactly remember when they were added, but my guess was after the accident of 2001. The rails are being painted red? I'd have to agree that the yellow goes better with the setting, but red is mor patriotic for Yankee Cannonball. Why don't they repaint the Corkscrew instead? That's a coaster that really needs a paint job. Cannobie always does their work late, last year they were constructing on Galaxy in the middle of the season.

The replacing of the brakes to put in magnetic brakes is a much better idea. Usually, that means that they can remove some of the trims on the other parts of the ride since they aree not needed anymore. After the accident last year, I'm not suprised their replacing the old brakes, they're unreliable. Squezze brakes are now in use on nearly every coaster. Even the old classics have been retrofitted with this modern convenience. Though these systems require less space and are practically fail-safe, the climatic jolting stop they produce make then far less graceful than the old fashion skid brakes.

GCI is doing a project in two parts. Part one, an partial overhaul of the braking system, finishes in a few weeks. Part two, to begin after this season, will also be related to the brakes and will restore the coaster to 2-train operation. There will not be 2 train operation in 2002.

Does this mean we get GCI's new "Millenium Flyer" trains and rolling stocks? That plus an overhaul on those trims could make this coaster good agian.

Millenium flyers are probably the best rolling stock (aka trains) for wooden coasters on the market
