XLR-8 in reverse!

The end of BBW backwards would be insane, sure it would be fun(wonder if you'd hang?), but I could imagine all that rocking when you get to the brakes, I don't know if it would be good or not on the neck facing back, but anything backwards works IMO, IF a park'll try it. There's lots that'd be fun to try backwards, if possible. I'd love to try some wood that wasn't a racer, for one.
Has anyone tried this backwards yet?

I saw the pics and I'm wondering why only half of the train is being reversed?

I rode backwards this past Friday night. It was really cool and unique.

As to why only partial reversal? I actually got a chance to talk with the head mechanic Friday. He thought it would be a good ideal to do the half and half so that riders could compare the 2 very different rides it provides.

I totally agree. What a great idea.

Yeah, that and I don't believe that arrow's chain dogs can be reversed, so the cars with the dogs and rollbacks have to be placed forward.

It certainly gave the ride a more interesting element. I thought riding backwards made the ride a lot more fun.

Which cars on an Arrow Suspended have Chain Dogs?

i would guess at the first 3 and so they couldnt be reversed?
ON my particular coaster it has the dogs on axles 3 and 6... (There are 7 axles), but it's a six car train, so it might be different.

Seems to me riding XLR8R backwards wouldn't be much different that riding it forwards, except that it would now be "gnirob."

I wonder if they'll run Shockwave backwards next year.
No, because it won't be at this park. It has a better chance of being installed in your butt, in which case I wonder if you'll be running it in reverse there.

Believe me, Pancake...there is NO WAY Shockwave can fit in chris' butt. Maybe the boomerang, but not the whole ride.

In case you haven't heard Six Flags has come up with an ingenous way of giving SFAW and SFA new coasters next year. Half of Shockwave's lift, the second two loops, and the corkscrews will go to SFAW; the second half of the lift, the first loop, and the boomerang will go to SFA. Viola! Two new coasters created out of one, and that solves the space problem at Astroworld.

Coming to SFA in 2003 - Shock, the ride!

Coming to SFAW in 2003 - Wave, the ride!

Enjoy your new toys, boys ;-)

Hey, Six Flags Astroglide is your park not mine. :-p

Yes, I believe what 'Moosh is describing is the first installment of Six Flags' brand new 'Spread it Around' program.

I think it's a very bold and exciting new program, and really shows how innovative the folks at Six Flags really are.

Or, they could install the ride at Six Flags Bahamaland, where it would move SO slowly that even Shockwave couldn't hurt anyone...;)

Six Flags Astroglide...well, at least the name is appropriate for a park that people claim is always getting screwed by corporate.

And the perfect park for "Spread it Around."

Finally got around to riding it last night, was about twice as fun. Better than the other suspendeds I've been on now, since I never held them in high regard. Maybe Top Gun is still a little better, but XLR-8 rises above Ninja and Iron Dragon now.

Figured out why they chose where they chose to split the train, front 3 cars forward and back 4 reversed. There is a mechanical device below the trains which raises to unlock the harnasses in the station. In order for the trains to be reversed this had to be de-installed and moved to the other side as well. Since it's split into two pieces, they moved the back half which handles the last four cars, but to keep the very front facing forward (two front seats on this ride!) they left the other lever in place. Therefore cars 2 and 3 can't be reversed because they're on the same lever as the front car. This also means that the park had to modify both of their suspended trains the same, because the station can't accommodate a train all facing forward and one facing backwards. Hopefully they'll just leave the modified XLR-8 trains as is now, since the ride's considerably more fun. Much better than Joker's Revenge ever was.

I'm amazed that it only took 24 hours for someone to actually ask if that was serious. Sarcasm: its in the dictionary.
