XLR-8 Arrow suspended train to run backwards at Astroworld

Posted Monday, October 7, 2002 4:43 AM | Contributed by Fierce Pancake

For the first time ever, an Arrow suspended coaster is going to run backwards - at least half the train. Astroworld had reversed the rear four cars on the train for Fright Fest, and we have a picture over at SixFlagsHouston.Com.

Sounds like fun, swinging around while traveling backwards. Wish I could try it.

Having been on the new floorless suspended at chessington (vampire) this would change a pretty boring ride into a very interesting one! The first backwards, floorless, suspended! i wish. This looks wicked! Shame about living in England :-(

Unless the modification makes the ride go faster, have more drops, or have tighter turns, the ride will still suck.

BrandonR....why judge so quickly?

I know BBW @ BGW wasnt alot to talk about, but if you were to run that backwards, it would certainly boost the overall thrill.

Come on people, if the ride doesn't cater to Brandon's needs it will always suck.

XLR-8 sucked when I rode it the correct way, why would facing the opposite direction make it a thrilling, exciting ride? Besides, riding it in reverse would mean I would have to *return* to SFAW which is not something on my To-Do list.

Why would it make it more thrilling? Tell me why not!

Because you're just looking backwards? It's not like you could see where you were going very well anyways when you facing forward. My point is that turning half the train backwards doesn't make for a better ride; it's just a gimmick to give a crappy ride a last chance.

Very nice idea. Thanks for the info and pics! I can think of some others that would benefit from this. I don't think that KI's Top Gun would be pleasant due to the intensity factor. But a milder suspended like ID would be perfect for this.

Lets face it. XLR8 is boring. Just like astroworld itself.

God I hope we get something new this year. If not, thats it. I will never return.

Actually, it's quite fun in reverse, and it's about time that I can finally say that SFAW has something that no one else in the world has yet! Of course XLR8 needs to be replaced with a shiny new 4D, but until Hell freezes over, this is OK!
