Xcelerator's full train is on track as opening day nears

Posted | Contributed by James Disney

Knott's Berry Farm is continuing the detail work on Xcelerator after the pull through was finished on Wednesday. The missing two cars of Xcelerator's purple train were placed on the track, the operator's booth is being built in the station and the main queue switch back area is taking shape.

So it is a five car train. I saw the pull through and thought they had changed it to a three car train. Phew!

Interesting that they're reinforcing those supports now. Also, in the photo with the "fins" installed at the joint, did you notice there's what appears to be a flexible joint between the track and support right next to it? Don't think we've seen that yet on an Intamin ride.

Actually, yes, they've been used... every single track mount on California Screamin' at California Adventure uses those isolator pads. The type being used on the Xcelerator over-banked turns are the same as are used on the loop for Screamin'. Their use on Xcelerator is much more selective; only being used on the over-banks.

"I saw the pull through and thought they had changed it to a three car train."

This is because of the weight... it's much easier to pull 2-3 cars through than it is to pull a full 5 car train. It just gets too cumbersome and heavy at that point.

There are a lot of "different" things about Screamin' it seems. I still very much want to go ride that thing!

I love the theming of those trains, they're neato!

Ah yes, yes!!! It's such an awesome ride; nearly a perfect coaster.

Too bad I missed the opportunity to ride Xcelerator back in the first week of April; oh well, I'll come back to California!

Will:

Riding Xcelerator the first week of April would have been a little difficult to do as they just recently completed the pull-through and the ride doesn't officially open until June 6th!!

Read the whole thread... he's talking about Cal Screamin'.

"Too bad I missed the opportunity to ride Xcelerator back in the first week of April; oh well, I'll come back to California! " is what I was referring to in my response - I realized the beginning was talking about California Screamin'.
Ugh, yeah he is saying to bad Xcel was not complete and open to ride when he was there in April. I dont see what's not to get.

well, in his thread, the implication is that there WAS, in fact, an opportunity to ride Xcelerator back then. There has been no such opportunity. Question is there's another 'X' in Socal - did you miss THAT opportunity??

WARNING: May be habit forming

FYI - as of just a little bit ago, the first train has been launched on Xcelerator. They're running it at 10MPH increments, slowly tweaking things until it gets up over the top and completes the course.
