Xcelerator track rises into the sky

Posted | Contributed by James Disney

One of Xcelerator's towers has had track placed, as we see the ride starting to take shape. The brake run has been finished and they are busy constructing the transfer track as well as working on the actual launch mechanism for the ride. The station's foundation was also laid on Friday.

The Disneyland Resort and Magic Mountain are also covered in this Westcoaster.net update.

Wow, I cant wait till I ride this one and then throw up.
dang i really can not wait to ride this thing. Maybe i'll pay knotts a visit today to see how much further the construction has gotten since friday. The construction is certainly moving along since they finished with all their little side projects (ie taking down VertiGo). Its funnny because about a month ago, there was a thread at westcoaster.net that talked about the boardwlk being over cluttered. I posted saying that they should remove some midway games, the excess remnants of the parachutes to make it look better.

Great to see that construction is runnig smooth in SoCal. I predict it should ope right on time.

Thanks for the pics, and I fell for your little joke, Mr. Disney. that was funny. Also, I liked the Norwaycoaster.net, LOL.

Jim...whadd'ya think...vertcial construction done in about 2 weeks if not sooner? Seems like they're about 1/4 done already.

Yeah, I could see a mid-April finish to Xcelerator easily. Then the fun really begins, the station, landscaping, queue, and trains! Great job Knott's, and great job Jim and Co. :)

Coming Soon: Coasters "American" Style.

wait a sec....about magic mountain, even though De Ja Vu keeps on valleying, they open it everyday?....because I'm going to Magic Mountain tomorrow and I want to know if it will be open. And about Xcelerator, Looking more good and fun everyday!

Hopefully it's open by late July. That looks to be truly marvelous.

It's getting to the point where I'd start placing bets! But I'd be amazed (at least if the weather holds out), that we're looking at just a few more weeks of vertical contstruction needed. They've begun work on the station as well, and today they placed two of the supports for the second overbank turn.

I'd really like to know why the brake run is slanted downward like that, Looks very weird.

MWFreak - I agree, but that's what you get with such a short track. Upon looking at the construction site I envisioned the second overbanked turn [the one that threads the top hat] spiraling down into a helix and a brakerun closer to ground level....oh well, they didn't ask me to design the thing! Regardless, I'm thrilled ;-)

Now that would've been nice! But a helix at that speed would be sure to pull 4.5G's or so... easily... and constant too!
