First impressions are most lasting ;-)
Wanna know a secret? I had a BIG issue with Drop Zone at PKI when it was being built because of.......... drum roll please.............. the alternating colors up the tower.
Now of course my opinion changed, as it often does. But generally the look of things plays a big part in my enjoyment of them. Not just coasters. I am a very visual person.
Here's another example. I like Volcano at PKD. But I do not LOVE it because of the horrible look the scaffolding/supports creates.

Purely aesthetically, the ride will take some getting use to, no doubt about that. But my first thought when I see a coaster, is to try to imagine what it's going to *feel* like running that element. I saw the twist up and the twist down, and was blown away. Just imagine a back seat ride, being twisted up, over that hop, then twisted back down.
Excuse me a moment, while I clean off my keyboard...

So I guess it's a "non-inverting top hat?" Who cares. ;)
As for the colors, come on... where else but Southern California?

The ride is only a minute and 2 seconds. That single element is probably the only thing that is going to make the ride. It wont be as thrilling as X. And for whoever said that the people on the west side have x and Xcelerator well over here we have Raptor Millennium force raging bull alpengeist apollos chariot superman incredible hulk and about twenty other awsome coasters. But really you have one park and that is Magic Mountain. O well that doesnt really matter. So long.

Steel Raptor, that is the silliest thing I have ever heard. First of all, your comparing rollercoasters in *several* states, to one, California. That right there should show how strong a state Cali is becoming coaster-wise. We're not there yet IMO, but every year seems to get better and better.
Wait till you see what's coming next year....
I know that very few of you here have seen it in person. If you do, it will look far better than it can ever look in pictures. In those shots, it looks a little bit like a drunk skycoaster. Don't worry, its way better in person.
Much in the way that no picture of Millenium Force can ever compare to seeing it in person.
Besides, it will have a pair of good looking overbanked turns to make it look even better than it does now. And it will have some theming, which should complete the visual appeal of Xcelerator.
Don't write it off too soon as being ugly.

Guys & girls, the Top Hat is all twisty-looking due to it being designed around the riders' heartline.
Sure, it would look better all straight as in the artist's impression but would hurt like hell. ;)
It looks just as strong as Wicked Twister. One could argue that the train is weightless when cresting the TH & thus not much support is required. Wrong, as with most coasters, they're over-engineered & can withstand earthquakes & gale force storms. I'm pretty sure that the TH is more than strong enough to support a train in the unlikely event should it get stuck at the top.
All I can say is far out! :)
The Beast said:
The track looks real close to the supports. What type of trains are they going to use? Also what happens if a earthquake were to hit near Knotts are the supports for Xcelerator strong enough? I
First, it is strong enough to withstand a very big earthquake. Thats what the footers are for. ;) Its not going anywhere. By the way, those supports are really beefy. I'm sure it is extremely strong!
And Xcelerator will use the Intamin Hyper style trains, such as those used on Millenium Force. These trains will be modified, (I think losing a row in the front and back) to make them look like 50's era Ford Thunderbirds.
