Xcailbur: A ride with a troubled past?!

Recently on Channel 5 news in St. Louis, the station talked about how "unsafe" Xcailbur was just becuase it got moved from New Jersey. Also some lady claims that the ride is extremely unsafe and the reason it got moved to SFSTL was because the laws are not as strict on amusment rides in Missouri then new Jersey. This whole report got me so mad that they are trying to make the ride sound unsafe.

Here is the Article....

Hmmm WOW I have rode Xcalibur over 30 times this season and for some strange reason and I guess only God knows why, I am still very alive! Wow I must have some great luck! Damn you Six Flags you keep trying to kill us with your extremely unsafe rides! Gosh whats next! Are you going to bring in a ride from SF Astro World! We would all die then! Or even worse a TOGO! AUGHHHH! Well now I am scared I shall never ride Xcalibur again!

(STUPID NEWS REPORTERS!)

------------------
THE SCARIEST PART OF THE RIDE IS THE LIFT HILL!

It's all part of Six Flags' master plan: If they can't kill people in New Jersey (ins't that the Mob's job?) then they will have to kill them in Missouri.

They should really be doing the report on Starfish at SFWoA.

I rode Excalibur once. The forces were a little crazy. But what really makes it unsafe, it didn't list it in the article.
I remember when the ride broke down on memorial day, ksdk sent a helicopter out and interupted their programming to show it. (I caught it while channel surfing)

I quit watching KSDK years ago. Watch Fox or WB11, they are better and they like the park. (Unfortunately I now live in Chicago)

The News just doesnt know what they are doing and are trying to stir up trouble. I think its a good thing because maybe that means they have less crimes to report lol. But anyway the reason it broke down on memorial day weekend was simply due to a computer glitch in which they fixed within a week and its back up and operating like normal.

If practice makes perfect but noone is perfect, then why practice.

Is the ride unsafe? Without knowing it's entire history I couldn't say, however NJ requires an enormous amount of documentation to operate a ride, far more than any other state in US. If a ride goes down for what ever reason in NJ it has to be reported to the state and the required forms filled out every time. If you have an attraction that is failsafes on you once or twice a week, it's generating a lot of paperwork, not to mention visits from the inspectors. So yes, SF copped out by sending it to MO to get out of the paper mountain it was generating.
Oh for cryin' out loud. They don't refer to this station as the "tabloid station" for nothing. I could have sworn they had a story about a "MO MO" sighting the other night. Take what they say on there with a grain of salt. Sheesh!

Yeah, I saw they Channel 5 was going to have that on...I didn't watch it though. Yet another case of the media exaggerating things. I don't usually watch Channel 5 news (Well I like their noon news)....I'm more of a Channel 4 person! (Or channel 2 in the morning) Notice that whenever Channel 5 mentioned the ride in that article, they spelled the name wrong...they always put Excalibur, but the name of it is really Xcalibur. Oh well...

Yes they should...last time I was there the ride op was allowing single riders...and they were children too...not good

Whats the story on Starfish? I saw the ride when I was at SFWoA but it wasnt running. What is it, and why the "aura of death" that surrounds it?

"You think you know me..."

I rode Xcalibur on July 4th. It was running great - no break downs all day. The carriages were making sort of a weird metallic sound as I was riding it but nothing too major. It's a fun ride, and I'm glad it got moved to SFStl which is much closer to me. I've heard this is the only ride of its kind in the US. Any truth to that?

Nashville needs a theme park!

Yes it's the only one like it in the US.

Ok ok the ride had its share of problems in the first two months of operation. I.E large bolts flying off and the memorial day incedent Well since about the second week of June the ride has performed very nicely. It is hardly down any more and when it is, it's back up and running within the half hour. To tell you the truth the ride scares the P#@$ out of me each time I ride it. In the end I know its safe and I trust SixFlags.

And for anyone that cares.

SFSTL addence is down as well as is there Per Cap apparently.

-Corprate has been to the park twice that I know of. The first time was to cheak on it and see how it was runing. (Could this maybe (maybe) mean a new ride) And the secodn time they showed up was when apparently they let some 15 yr olds work to many hours and have had a law suite filed upon them. (I am assuming the federal goverment).

-And lastly there is no talk of a new ride/attraction for next year. Nor is there any signs.

Mr. Hill - Then why has no one ever noticed this before?
Nurse - Mr. Hill very few people have access to the pamphlets I have.
Nurse - Here take one.
King of the Hill

They need to start it up. Espicially the way SDC and CC are building new attractions lately.

After standing as Evolution for so long at SFGA. I am a regular and I usually go to the park every 2 weeks or so. I only seen it run 3 times while I was there. After talking with a ride host once they said it needed a part from German that was custom made. I never rode the ride but I think SFGa is making way for a Tower Ride next season. Superman Power of Tower like in SFOT.

The article uses one of the standard techniques of yellow journalism. It reports on what someone said as a speculation, not on what happened. Kathy Fackler (an internet ride safety advocate) said that the ride "may" have been moved due to the difference in safety laws between New Jersey and Missouri. This is the weakest kind of hearsay information. Someone speculated based on no evidence that something may have happened. It's kind of like saying that the flattened wheat circle may have happened because Martians landed in Missouri last night and then took back off. The news media protects itself from liable suits by reporting what someone said rather than saying that something happened.

The reason the ride moved has NOTHING to do with safety....GAdv is STILL *loaded* with flats they can't/won't run due to staffing issues and maintenance issues....I'm hoping to finally get on JJF this time around. Anyhow, I *never* saw Evolution running at GAdv on the 4-5 times I was at the park in the last few years.

GAdv had/has an abundance of cool flats, SFStL had the need for a GOOD hi-capacity flat and the ability to restore/maintain the ride, everybody wins...:)

To recap....Evolution, totally safe, only *slightly* nauseating, SBNO at GAdv....re-themed, relocated, operational, exciting, and FUN....*still* safe...:)
