The new ARM Drop Tower for 2007 at Waldameer was announced today at 1PM. The new ride will tower 140 feet tall and the name chosen in a "naming contest" was X-Scream.

Just a note.

When I saw the title, i thought it was this X-Scream.

That's good for Waldameer. Small park, growing and going forward.

/\ bummer, goes to show how origional that name is, I would have much rather something like.. Daredevil's Descent... lol
That's pretty cool though. Don't much care for the name, but I love drop towers.Im guessing there are nothing for "runners up". *** Edited 7/22/2006 2:09:46 PM UTC by P18***

Interesting that the last two major rides Waldameer has put in have had naming contests and both times the winner was a name of a prominent ride that already exists:

Steel Dragon
X-Scream

I guess we know how to win their contest the next time around. ;)

Woah... that looks like a pretty sweet ride.

I really hope Ravine Flyer II gets built SOMETIME this decade, however. They've got all the permits, all the lawsuits out of the way, and I think the appeals courts have finally quit on that couple who keeps suing... so all systems should be a go-go to get the Ravine Flyer II up by next year.

But it's doubtful it'll be up by '07, especially if they plan this ride for the same year.

Just a couple of good reasons to go there not to mention the things that they already have. I haven't been to Erie for a good while and really want to get there again once those new rides are up and running.

^agreed. and it's not from where I live.

Next summers PA coaster trip will be good.

My hometown is very close to Erie, and in the past couple years I've made the "extra effort" to make some time to visit Waldameer. I don't mind spending a bit of money there because I want to continue to see them thrive and grow.

As a kid I went to Waldameer many times on fun trips and school trips. The place seemed so much bigger then.

Steel Dragon alone is worth the stop. I wish more parks had this type of spinning mouse - I find them A LOT more fun than "standard" mouse coasters.

The drop ride next year will be a great addition to the park, and I too, am looking forward to the construction of the new Ravine Flyer.

At least you know Waldameer won't pull a Cedar Point and wall-off the construction site, because both this tower and the Ferris Wheel together will give an excellent view of the Ravine Flyer II construction zone throughout next summer.

Ravine Flyer II is planned to open in May of 2008, some construction has already started on the coaster, but only the land structure construction due to bluff restrictions, nothing in the way of footers or coaster foundation.

Waldameer seems to be investing a lot recently, and it's greatly paying off. Attendance continues improve each year, and they never stop trying to improve conditions in the park.

Being from Edinboro (30 minutes south of Erie), I love having an active park nearby. Too bad that the park is so far landlocked by mobile home parks, bluff, and Peninsula Drive. I have a feeling that Waldameer will attempt to buy out the mobile home park in the future.
