"X" in B-MORE!

Jus wanted to let you all know that X is so much "state of the art" that the Fox affiliate in Baltimore, Fox45 (WBFF), did an expose' on X this morning during their news broadcast. It was also simulcast on a local radio station, 92Q (92.3 WERQ). They showed a bit of footage of David Escalante riding. It's funny, the women on both the radio and TV side were all about trying to ride, while the guys were like "nah I dont do crazy stuff like that" or "I dont like to wait in long lines" or "Last time I rode one my head got banged around" (paraphrases, not exact quotations).

They very briefly touched on safety where one of the guys mentioned the Goliath death (though he didnt call out the park, based on the fact pattern, I of course knew what it was. It was cool because one of the ladies was like 'I'm sure you're more likely to be struck by lightning that get hurt on a ride'(again a paraphrase). How right she is!

Hopefully, those glowing reviews will keep coming in and we'll get one of those out east!

I was irritated that we got nothing on any of the stations I watched here in Cleveland. I suppose they wanted to focus on western coverage, but even for that, their event seemed late in the day to hit the morning shows.

This was one of those cases it would've been OK for the world to think that everything revolves around New York and LA. ;)

They showed what I would assume to be the same footage on the Fox affiliate in Chicago last night on the 10:00 pm news.  There wasn't too much banter about the ride, as Robin Robinson just read the script that had been written for the piece.  During a shot of one of the seat rotations, she did add this in (or something to this effect):  "This is where the riders puke, I mean where the seats rotate."

Too bad they are showing this all over, I was hoping that maybe we were getting a preview of SFAm's next addition.  ;)  There's always wishful thinking...

They showed some footage of "X" here in Detroit lastnight on WJBK-Fox News.

I hadn't seen Jeff's post when I made my reply.  So I guess they aren't showing this footage everywhere. Maybe this was a sneak peek for certain markets.  I know, it's just a coincidence. ;)

Chris - I saw the teaser for that X story on Fox at 7:30.  Waited impatiently until 9:55 to see a 20-second clip.  Do news stations have a standard script they read for the stories on coasters?  For crying out loud, it's the same banter every time... "Oh... not for me!  I'll stick to my backyard hammock!"  Blah blah blah.

Aside from the blabber, the footage was amazing.  It hurt me to see green grass and people wearing t-shirts.

Fortunately, I didn't have to sit through the Fox news.  I just randomly saw it when I went to watch The Simpsons at 10.

Fox 8 News here in Cleveland plugged during their 5:00 broadcast that they'd show an "extreme new thrill ride in Southern California". The footage they showed was no more than 20 seconds as it showed the cars rotating at the top of the lift and then flipping during the first turn... and that was it. To the causal viewer, they probably couldn't even tell what the ride did as the footage wasn't that great and way too brief too notice the radical concept of flipping cars. Add in 5:00 news anchor Bill Martin's annoyingly obnoxious commentary (which I tend to tune out... who told him he was funny anyway?) and it made for an irritating segment.

See, it figures they'd show it on the one news I refuse to watch, seeing as how their tease is often something similar to a tabloid headline.

It was shown here in Tampa on the Fox affiliate.

Go Full Force

Well, one of the local Baltimore stations showed Dondonpa recently. And I remember seeing Magnum years ago. So maybe the Baltimore stations are a little more "hip" when it comes to roller coasters.

It has been REALLY warm in the southwest recently. In Phx we were over 80 degrees a couple days ago. Although I didnt see it personally, my mom told me that one of the local news channels had a crew out there and they showed our local newscaster riding and screaming. Wish I'da seen it.

My other car is a Giovanola!

they showed it here in AZ on "good morning arizona".  its a local channel, not a FOX affiliate or anything.  i was glad they showed a full POV plus lots of external shots and some interviews with SF people.  very good broadcast, shoot, i skipped a class just to see it ;)

LoadedG, I saw that clip. It was on ABC local news at 6:00. One of the newscasters was screaming like a little girl! (and he is a full-grown man) They showed an arial shot of the whole ride (I am guessing from a helicopter) and plenty of on-ride footage.

I have it on tape, but the whole segment is no longer than 60-90 seconds. I guess that is better than 20 seconds.

"X" marks the spot in 2001!

I just saw it here in Chicago on the ABC Channel 7 news.

David Escalante, I heard, embarrased ACE somehow?

How?

Is it just me, or do all news anchors seem to be afraid of rollercoastes?  They always sound very afraid and shocked when talking about them on tv.  On the radio when Hypersonic opened, the guy said "Hypersonic XLC.  This thing is the biggest and baddest coaster in the world!"  I just think it's kind of funny...

All of my non-enthusiast friends were talking about that, some even claimed that SFGAm is getting that for next year, and one guy even claimed that Fox said it themselves, this is our '02 attraction. Lucky for me, I didn't get my hopes up because of the list of '02 SF coasters Mamoosh posted. This is exactly how rumors get started...
