X construction seems never-ending at Magic Mountain

Posted | Contributed by Karl DeAngelo

Magic Mountain keeps working on X, trying to get it ready for opening day. There has been more landscaping work around the construction site as well as some irrigation work.

Deja Vu has received bright orange seat belts in addition to the existing OTSR and connecting seat belt. Dispatch times are now ranging from 4 minutes to 8 minutes.

Wow. I don't think I'll be waiting in line for Deja Vu anytime soon. It's a really good ride, but already on it's way to being a torture device.

And then Jerry said, "Take care of yourselves, and each other".
"Dispatch times are now ranging from 4 minutes to 8 minutes."

"Super!" (sarcasm) Great! Just what we need, longer dispatch times on a coaster which already takes a long time to dispatch. What's the need of the seat belts?

X looks great, with all of the landscaping work being done around the ride. In this photo, it says quote, "A section of the ground has been paved, most likely for irrigation purposes. That section is where the on-ride photo will be located." So is the on-ride photo going to be at the bottom of the first drop?

And in this photo, you can see trims on the bottom of the first drop.

The photo is going to be after the first Raven Turn. When I said "that section" I was referring to the paved area.

Yeah, X is shaping up nicely.  Anybody have any predictions on when this beast will open?
Karl,  I am assuming that you have riiden dejavu since the seatbeltd were added.  I wanted to ask you, Did you notice anything different about the support of the belt?  Cause I know when I rode it the last trip up the station tower was very painfull,  did these help?  Thanks.

Karl:

The seatbelts were added to Deja because many riders were complaining that they didn't feel secure -- that they slid too far forward -- when face-down on the first vertical spike.  The seatbelts keep the rider closer to the seat back.

I should've known that was the reason. I noticed the lack of airtime coming down the two spikes which I had previously had on the ride.

I must add that the belts are designed very well so that the operators can tighten them quickly as they check the restraints.

SoCalmmguy-
I didn't find the trip up either tower painful at all even before the seat belts. The return up the first spike is one of my favorite moments of the ride which to me is very similar in sensation to the holding brake on the Intamin Impulse coasters.

Ok , Enough about the two towers.

What about the rest of the ride,  I heard Deja Vu was one of vekomas smoothest rides, Can someone confirm this. *** This post was edited by 00000000 on 9/24/2001. ***

There is NO headbanging on Deja Vu and Vekoma is known for headbangers.

ahh who cares about support, the reason we ride things is to cheat death and put a little extra thrill in our lives.  (and for some of us like me it is our lives.) i felt perfectly comfortable when i rode deja vu without the new seatbelts.
No its not! 4-8 minutes...sheesh thats not true. I just rode the SFMM one, we were out in 2-3 minutes tops. And I cant believe they DIDNT have those seatbelts! I would have felt very insecure without them!
I was wondering, why does the dispatch for Deja Vu take so long?
I was at SFMM today (9/24), dispatch times for Deja Vu were around 5-6 minutes.  Good thing the longest wait was 5 trains in the early morning.  I'll turn in a trip report with more of my impressions and observations of Deja Vu later on tonight.
I was also a SFMM today (Monday) . Got there at 10am.....no lines anywhere! I love it when it's like that there! I was hoping to see "X" testing but didn't. "X" looks much more impressive when you actually see it, compared to the pictures. It's going to be one hell of a ride!
We asked all around about an opening date for "X" and the general buzz was that it would probably be in Oct. just in time for their Fright Fest.
One more note.....the back seat on Deja Vu is the best!

As I hate to even say it, and though it may only be a rumor still, SCREAMSCAPE has insight that X has a restraint or seat problem that may delay the rides opening for the rest of the year. I hope that one isnt true.
Maybe they could add more operators for the ride to decrease load/dispatch times.
