X and BAT

Does this whole X situation remind you of what happened with another Arrow prototype coaster called "The Bat"?

Umm...with Arrow's current financial woes, I doubt they're doing much besides litigating.

Welcome to Six Flags Great America, home of the fastlane and delay-ja vu! We have now officially been deemed the world-wide wait!

I dont know how many times this has to be said....there are NO more 4ds currently in the works and there hasnt been any in the works for a while now... Geesh....

I'm sure CP's next coaster will be breaking and setting new world's records.. now which ones.. that is up for debate :)

WCUSA-The World's largest theme park is coming!
Theme parks will NEVER be the same!

There are plenty of coasters that had problems opening year that caused them to close, did they get removed? No, they are working flawlessly now, im sure the same thing will happen to X. They have spent to much money on it to just give up on it and take it out.

And may I remind you that the Bat was taken out after about two or three years of operation. X hasn't even been in operation for a year. I would say we should wait a couple of years until we start calling X "the modern-day Bat".

Bat sorta reminds me of Drachen Fire

Kinda, Superdude, but DF never had the problems that The Bat had. In case you haven't read the full story on the bat, check it out...it's interesting stuff. (Do a search to find it.)

The biggest problem X is having is with the trains. And the trains can be re-designed...

I also remember that the Arrow Stand Up prototype at WOF was a failure in it first year and removed after that. I hope this issn't another stand up diaster let alone a Bat diaster.

Here's a link to the story of the bat...

It's interesting... I had ALWAYS heard that someone was greviously injured or killed on the ride. I grew up in Columbus, near PKI, and always remember that story being told. Odd that that should be an urban legend. Huh.

Learn something new every day.

No one died on The Bat, the reason it was torn out was due to its unbanked turns. The swinging with no banking did a deal on the track, pistons, and the people that rode. X's whole ride was ahead of its time and with Arrow going out of business its not very suprising that we won't see another Arrow 4d, other companies probably have an idea though.

Can we change the name of Top Gun to your mom so no one wants to ride your mom?

It says that the brake fins were below the train, so how did they stop it while it was swinging?

It goes through a straight section of track and stops swinging am I right? Its kinda like a lift hill it hits those little metal crevices and hooks in. Anyone else know?

Yes your right. In order for that bat to stop swinging there had to be a straight section of track, THEN the brakes. I'm not sure exactly how it worked or if it did but it seems to me that if it was goin fast enough it might fly through the straight section without engaging to the brakes! Then again I know little or near absolutely nothing about the exact problems with the ride

It's his turn to feast, when you ride the Son of Beast.

Maybe it was like Top Gun go up a hill then slow down? Anyone ride it?

The roller coaster you are talking about was first designed to be an Arrow sit-down roller coaster, and it ran as one for several years. Then, Arrow offered stand-up trains and WOF decided to switch the trains. Due the the different stresses that the stand-up trains applied to the track, stress fractures appeared. So, the original sit-down trains were put back on.

I'm not sure how they stopped the Bat from swinging to hit the brakes, but has anyone ever looked at Iron Dragon as it enters the station at the end of the ride. There's a piece that is open and gets smaller as it goes. The wheels at the bottom filter into it and it stops swinging. (I wish I could descibe it better)

It looks kind of like (top view):

The wider end is where the trains come in.
