Worlds of Fun

One good thing about Orient Express...

It's the ONLY ride where I have ever seen a "chicken chute" actually labelled as such!

(the full trip report containing that photo is here.)

The Timber Wolf had a sign saying Chicken Exit in its que house at one time. I wonder what ever happened to it. However they still call it the Chicken Exit. I tihnk the chicken exit sign for The Oreint Express is real neat. I belive on that day you visited WOF someone told me about Dry Runs on the Mamba.

I'll take the terrain coaster over the orange/pink/green/yellow thing any day.

Worlds of Fun is an excellent park, and one of the closest to me (living in Omaha). As people have mentioned Mamba and Timberwolf are excellent rollercoasters. I personally don't have any problems with the "roughness on OE. It has a very unique layout with the interlocking loops, and the kamikazee curve. And I'm sure if you've never been on a Boomerang coaster the orange/pink/green thing could be worth your time. :-)
One word sums up the reason why Boomerang is THAT color combination -- ready? --- are you sure? --- KELLER! Yes that is right, the Keller that is now at Cedar Point was the one who chose that combination. Isn't it wonderful?

Hey SFoNeb, is Papa's Park up there showing any signs of progress?

Swoosh,

(Watch what you say about Keller around here)

I haven't driven by the site lately, but it seems like nothing new to report. There have been no updates on the news stations up here In Omaha, or the Omaha and Council Bluff's newspapers. It's seeming like a summer opening is overly optimistict.

http://www.papaspark.com/ is still in it's current state of nothing as well, so we'll wait and see what happens.

(Edit) Work on the soil has already been completed and construction for the rides will begin when the weather warms up. Is the last i've heard

I suppose I could start a great debate here by asking, "Which is/was rougher, Shockwave or Orient Express". Having ridden both coasters two seasons ago, I tend to believe that Orient is rougher. Want proof? Shockwave never derailed!

Seriously, I like Worlds of Fun, eventhough there isn't much themeing. I think Mamba is a great ride, eventhough it keeps having tire problems. I do think that the park is somewhat ignored by Cedar Fair, but that's business.

When it comes to TimberWolf, I think it's a fair coaster, but I have to ask this question; Does Cedar Fair have any woodies that aren't overbraked? I haven't ridden Ghost rider but I have obviously heard the positive reviews. Is that the only CF coaster that isn't overbraked?

Fever

Timbers isn't overbraked, mainly because it only has three sets:

1 in the station and 2 on the transfer track and just up from the transfer track. Thus, 5000' consecutive feet are brake-free.

Shockwave vs OE:
Shockwave has the rougher moment [left turn into the block] and OE has more of them [the boomerang and the helix].

WOF:
Mamba, back through TimberWolf, down to OE, and through Scandinavia back towards Africa. I believe you may miss the bumper cars this way, though. Depending on how many cars they run, you may want to stop by those.

T-Wolf does not have 5000 ft of track, it has 4,230. There is also one additional brake, it is on the first drop. And for reference, there are 3 brake runs...station, checks, and mids.

I'm not going to argue that OE is rougher than Shockwave was....personally the roughness of both doesn't bother me. Heres a clip of the official statement that explained the cause of the derailment:

Kansas City, MO -- Worlds of Fun officials released a statement on the cause of the train derailment on the Orient Express roller coaster in July. According to the park the accident was a result of an unusual fracture inside one of the metal supports.

According to the statement the fracture was a result of metal fatigue caused by wear and tear from the track. The park doubts that the fracture could have been detected because of the origin inside the support.
