Worlds Of Fun, 4/13/02

Associated parks:
None

WOF opened on 4/6/02, but I wasn't able to make it that weekend, so my friend and I decided to go this weekend. We got there about 11 a.m. One of my favorite parts of entering the park is seeing Orient Express flying on the tracks.

When we got in good viewing distance, it was easy to see the coaster trains were empty. It turned out it had been broken down (or at least not open) that morning but it opened up later.

Also one of my top 5 wooden coasters, Timber Wolf when I got to the entrance had also broken down. So I started the day, with the log flume, Viking Voyageur, a fun ride with only 1 big drop, so it doesn't rank #1 on my log flume list.

I then went over to Thunderhawk, Worlds Of Fun's new Huss Top Spin with water effects. Unfortunately the water effects weren't on. This was a very popular ride throughout the day, and just like what I heard on opening day, it broke down a lot. Not only was it fun to ride, but fun to watch also. Even though it isn't a CCI Woodie which I've love to get next year, it wasn't a bad addition to the park. This ride spins riders several times and has a rider capacity of up to 40 people a ride, so the wait in the line wasn't bad.

Next I rode the Morgan Hyper, Mamba. It ran great as usual. It was nice to ride a coaster again. It had been about 6 months since my last coaster.

Finally, Timber Wolf was open. The lines were very short. Timber Wolf had a ton of air and no brake on 1st drop, lots of laterals too. When Timber Wolf is running brakeless, there aren't many woodies that are better. I got stapled in on this ride. I rode it a total of 3 times. It broke down several times during the day, one time when I was on the brake run, forcing me to sit there for about 10 minutes. They also had a new logo on the coaster and I think new lap bars.

Next I rode Orient Express, an Arrow with interlocking loops. It was very intense and rough through the elements but great first drop with high g's.

For lunch I ate Pizza at a place I think was called Pizza Pier. It was below average and of course was 3 dollars for one slice. The slice was big however. I also got breadsticks which cost about $2.50, but it was 4 or 5 breadsticks.

Next I rode Detanator, the twin tower S&S Space Shot ride. This was a very fun ride and the ride operator was very funny. Also it's interesting to know that the Ride Operators are now called Ride Ambassadors.

For dinner I have cold chicken wings at Pagoda Soda. But they kindly made me some more when I told them.

I also rode Flying Dutchmen (a spinning ride). Fury Of The Nile (a fun river rapids ride), Rockin Reeler, Autobahn (Bumper Cars), and the Railroad.

We left around 7:30, even though the park closed at 10. So we were there about 8 1/2 hours. Plenty of time to ride the great roller coasters and flat rides.

I noticed several small additions to park. The scenery looked very nice and it was better than I remembered it last fall. It looks like they made some improvements for this year.

The crowds were light during the day. The ride staff was very friendly especially on Fury Of The Nile. Other than the roller coasters (except for Mamba) braking down a lot, it was a great day at the park. I highly recommend this park.

Hopefully they'll get a new CCI Woodie next year.

Anyone been to this park, especially this year, and have any comments/questions?

thanks,

Thanks for the TR,

Our family is planning on visiting this park for the first time in June. Hope they are still running Twolf full out at that time. Hoping also that Mamba is as good as Steel Force.

Take it easy,

DAC

You can pretty much forget about a brakeless T-Wolf... The drop trim was on this weekend... You can really feel it in the front of the train. It killed the air on the first drop, but the rest of the ride seems more or less the same...

I just added some Worlds Of Fun photos from my trip there on 4/13/01, just go to see them (and vote in the poll also)
