World's Of Fun opinions...

Ok I'm really confused here. Merri Sedai, do you really feel that the Boomerang will be moved to another park? IMHO that would be ridiculous to spend money YET AGAIN to move the ride, but like you said--where's the merchandise? The only "real" shirt that I saw for it was one that had a picture of the ride with Boomerang written across it. The logo was not anything like the one they are using now...my question is, will Phil Bender rename the ride to fit the theme AND get a new logo? Thank god Dan Keller and his unoriginal detheming ways are on the way out.

Give me a break... like Dan Keller is personally responsible for every little thing that goes on at his park. General managers in any business don't micromanage every little aspect of their business. No one is going to rename the ride and toss all of the marketing materials and local brand recognition out the door. GM's don't design logos either.

Right you are Jeff. Most of the final decisions about anything major come from corporate headquarters, in this case Sandusky. Mr. Keller or whoever is the GM are just the people who implement them.
It's no secret to those of us who worked for CP in the "good old days" that theming fell out of grace when the management changed back in the mid 1970's. There were a lot of us that left there because we didn't like what was happening. The concept became if it didn't produce revenue it was a waste of time, space and money. Theming didn't produce revenue therefore...... It'll be interesting to see what eventually will happen at Knott's.
Do you know why they are making Keller GM of CP?
Money! Worlds of Fun made alot of money with Keller in charge. But the problem is he cut way too many budgets to do it. Now it will take a long time for Worlds to recover and still make money at the same time. This budget cutting made him look good to the upper management and he knew that he wouldn't be staying and Worlds of Fun so what does he care if the budget cutting catches up with the park. This is not just a problem at Worlds either, Disney is having the same problems with a guy named Paul Pressler. And yes I don't like either of those men.

I just hope that Phil Bender can pull Worlds out of this.

You guys who don't go to Worlds on a regular basis have no idea how bad off the park really is,
I've been going to the park since I was 5, and I'm 19 now, I've seen how much the park has changed during those years and it's sad. Yes some of the changes were good, but a lot of them were not. Also if Hunt Midwest was still in charge, we would still have the Zinger AND we'd have a racing woodie. They were in the final stages of planning it when the park was bought out in 1995. CF:LP threw the plans out deeming that it would cost way too much money and that Worlds did not receive enough traffic for such an investment. The truth is, Worlds is one of the busiest tourist destinations in the Tri-state area. But that may decline now since it seems we aren't important enough. Yes this may seem like a b!tch session and in a way it is, but when you know that they are screwing your homepark over and then other people go around saying, oh there's nothing wrong with the park, and have no idea, it tends to get on your nerves.

Respectfully
D

You're probably right, Keller got the promotion because he's the man and can show the numbers. Yes, it's a business, and if Worlds is so bad off, why would they promote the guy to GM of the company's flagship park? Dick Kinzel is no idiot, I can assure you. Clearly something is going right there or they wouldn't bring the guy up. You don't place someone in one of the company's most important positions if he has a poor track record.

With regards to whatever plans you think were going to happen, if they were too ambitious and would lead to long-term debt, of course Cedar Fair would pull the plug. Historically, they don't like to get in to any situation where capital improvement would drastically inflate their debt.

If your opinions are based on the chatter from seasonals or other "little people," that's reason enough to reconsider what you think of the guy.

Dutchman: You seem to be in the majority of former employees from that era not happy with that direction. I'll tell you what, though, if you haven't been to Halloweekends this year, by all means go. I think you'll be impressed. And as for next year, well, let's just say that the budget for next year's Halloweekends has seven figures in it...

Jenn, you don't come off any more credible than Dustijn. Not a good way to make your first post on the site.

You guys act like you know Keller personally like you're best friend. Give me a break. Most of the arguments here are worse than the blind faith religion of Point fans, only far more angry and bitter.

And to suggest for a moment that The Force was built by WOF profits? What? In light of the hundreds of Cedar Fair hotel rooms in Sandusky, and the various quotes from Mr. Kinzel that the ride will take a little longer to pay off, I'd say your comment is completely off the mark.

I've said it before... those who know the most don't talk, those don't know talk the most.

This thread is going nowhere...
