World's Most Intense Helix

Goliath's is amazing, the first time I rode it, I saw stars, and thats the only helix I've ever seen stars on. Last summer I guess the trims were on heavy or something because I didn't see any stars and it wasn't very forcefull. Anyone know how Titan's helix compares? Arn't they the same exact design?

Boss' @ SFSTL is also very intense. *** Edited 3/21/2005 6:53:43 PM UTC by Geewhzz***

AJ, I will agree that without question Nitro has the strongest forces of any Beemer helix, the only real competition being Kumba's finishing helix. Have to wonder if you've ridden either of the Gio's though, as they sure feel stronger to me....than again, I can't seem to GET as much out of the Beemer hypers because of the HIGH seats on their trains....

Geewhzz, Titan enters the first helix and is almost *crushing*....the second helix on Titan mirrors the one on "The Big G"...;)

Actually I have to add one to my list, Anton's Whizzer has that kick ass ground hugging overgrown helix which is the lighlight of that ride for me.

Loch Ness Monster- really because I didnt know it was there, until it happened.

Surprised no one mentioned the ultra painful ending of Gemini. That's a very intense little helix.

Other rides I would consider...

  • Goliath (SFMM)
  • Legend (HW)
  • Beast (especially those night rides during BeastBuzz)
  • Any of the B:TR clones. I can feel the blood pooling in my feet on those. Especially Namtab at SFStl. That one seems to be a bit more intense for some reason...

I foudn 2 woodies mention here that I like the helices on.

They Are :

Thunder Bolt, The lateral G bowl is very fun on this ACE Coaster Classic. My sister lover crushing me into the side of the car, it was lots of fun.

Beast, That helix was very, very, very intense. I almost lost my glasses on that curve durring Coasterbuzz Con 1 (AKA Beast Buzz 1). No days I have since had laser eye surgery and now I see like a hawk.

For Steel Coasters I have to give my vote right now for Powder Keg's Buzzsaw Curve. (named for the ride that used to run on that alignment of track) The trans now navigate thourgh that turn twice as fast as the old Buzzsaw Falls Trains did through that curve making it for a more intense experience. Don't worry aboiut hiting the chain lift twice as fast, becasue they have added brakes before the lift so it wouldn't hit as hard as the old Buzzsaw Falls trains sometimes did.

Sawblade, you from W. Virginia or Kentucky? Just asking, I noticed you're a 'sister lover.' Then, I look and find you're from Kansas....I dare not ask.

There's nothing like a woodie...
Remember that a Helix has to be 360 degrees or more. A Sprial is 190 degrees to 359 degrees. Batman: the Ride and Talon feature 270 degree sprials. Fire Dragon's Wrap-Around Immelman features a 180 degree turn or 270 sprial depending on how you look at it. But I will agree that these elements are very intense. *** Edited 3/22/2005 5:26:27 PM UTC by SONiC Senshi***
Wood: The Beast and The Legend

Steel: Raptor--when you feel the blood pooling to your feet you know its intense! :)

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
SONic Senshi, I consider Batman the Ride to have a helix. Who says it has to be 360 degrees?

LOL, agreed Parker...I was just thinking last night as I closed BGT that the "almost helix" finish on Gwazi Tiger was totally OOC...and realized I had to post back to this thread...:)

Plus that is also the basic definition in mathematic as well as the terms used by Bolliger & Mabillard and Intamin. It is also technicality terms, if a sprial and helix are the same thing, then it is like saying a Vertical Loop and a Heartline Spin are the same thing.

Steel: Goliath @ SFMM. No matter how many times I ride, that helix still gets me.

Wood: Hard to say. Tremors has some pretty wicked laterals. I forget if it has a true helix.

Kumba has an amazing Helix, and even though its a clone I like Titans, at SFOT

Dallas, TX
Titan's. It was amazing. I think it has an extra curve in there somewhere but oh well. I loved it anyways. Goliath too. I blacked out on Goliath but that was in 2001 when I was in the 7th grade and not very big. Last year when I rode Titan, I was very very close to blacking out but I didn't.

Twister at Knoebels is one of my favoites. Also the turnaround and helix on Colossus at Heide Park. I look back now and see that it was such an awesome ride. It was a shame that I thought it was 'way too tame' at the time.

For fun factor, I vote Euro-Mir at Europa Park, the helices are great and the spinning is on par with any spinning mouse.

Wood: Beast. Hands down. Nothing beats the sound of screams echoing around those tunnels in that helix.

Steel: Goliath. VERY intense on this helix. Just brute force the whole time around.

Well, I can agree with the popular choices: Goliath and Beast :)
Goliath! I'll never forgot the first time I rode it. I was riding alone and a young
marine asked to ride with me. As we were taking our seats he said " Maam I'm not afraid to defend your life in the face of an enemy, but I am scared ****less of rollercoasters and my friends are making me do this"
Coming out of that helix I thought for sure that poor kid was going to pass out. lol!
I bet he hasn't got another ride since.

Red
For wood: The Beast. Even after hundreds of rides that element still "gets me".

Steel: Titan. I was quite impressed with how much power Goliath had during its helix. I had no idea the first helix on Titan would feel even strong than the one on Goliath.

Now here is a question for you that is related to this topic.

What park has the most helices?

My guess would be PKI as they currently have helices in the double digits.

-Sean

Well, any park with a Toboggan is probably in the running. ;)
