Woman shot outside of Kennywood

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized after being shot in the upper chest near her shoulder Saturday at Kennywood Park, Allegheny County police said. West Mifflin police indicated the victim was shot outside the amusement park, but county police later said the woman was struck in the park.

This is a problem in CA, the use of firearms to celebrate the 4th of July, New Years and any Mexican holidays. People just can't seem to comprehend that what goes up must come down, and not necessarily in the area it came from.

Bad year for Kennywood. On opening day the park closed early and there was a big police response due to a large group of unruly teens. These two incidents have been widely reported in the local media. The park seems to have run out of luck in regards to being located in/near a "bad" area and I feel like it's only a matter of time before people rethink whether they want to bring their family there.

Hard to figure out what really happened as the media can't get their story straight. There were reports on the news last night of the shooting being at Mcdonald's. Now the story is changing from being shot outside to inside the park.

The first incident on opening day in my opinion was really overblown in the media and the park handled that incident pretty well. This one will be tougher for the park, and well the park is never open as late as it used to be and for good reasons.

Kennywood posted and update to their Facebook page. Looks like it was a stray bullet from someone outside the park shooting their gun in the air to celebrate the 4th.

I've heard of this happening before, but what are the odds? I mean, if she was 6 inches to the right or left, it would have hit the ground. It's just nuts.

Back in January, someone was hit at Busch Gardens by New Years celebratory gunfire - remember?

Nothing to see here. Move along.

It actually happens quite often, especially in the South with all the rednecks and their shotguns. One time in Atlanta there was an incident on New Years where a stray bullet went through a church roof and killed a baby girl at the service. This was full blown in the news for a couple of days, but then everyone forgot about it.

Everyone but a church full of people and the parents of a baby girl, right?

Those darned rednecks, anyway...

Nick, if you look up right now, you might just be able to see Gator's point zipping by right over your head.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

But if he looks up, a stray bullet might hit his eye.

Only had the chance to make it to kennywoood once. It rained pretty much the whole day but I loved it anyway. One of my favorite parks, sad to hear it is having some unfortunate PR issues this season.

I thought Gator was responding to the jab about people in the south being rednecks and about how people probably actually did still care, but now I'm starting to think that maybe it was my head that the point flew over. ;)

(/Lerch): You rang?

My only real point is the one on top o' me 'ead...

edit: Nope, here's another point. Celebrate with fireworks, leave the gunfire for targets and hunting.

edited again, in lieu of making multiple posts: The isn't like the penalty box on a soccer pitch, or the park grounds at Knoebels...should be pretty easy to determine whether she was IN the park or not...
