A woman was pronounced dead Saturday after being found unresponsive on The Voyage at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana. The ride was inspected and, according to the social media post, it was determined the ride operated as intended. The ride remained closed Friday evening out of respect for the family.

Died from a torn artery. Yikes.

That's freaky, to be honest. Medically, it's called spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) and typically occurs in middle aged women, often in people not typically at risk for heart disease.

Sounds like the Voyage ride may have not helped, but probably would have occurred off-ride at some point. Just a freak incident, as many of them are.

Sounds similar to what happened to my cousin. Hers must not have torn as far as this woman she survived but she was not doing anything physically strenuous when it happened. She was waiting for the funeral home to come pick her grandmother up when it started, coded as she arrived at the hospital, quite lucky to be alive. It's just a really freak thing.

This is incredibly unusual. The arterial dissection was likely a result of shearing forces from the ride, as the medical examiner stated. It’s very unlikely to be the result of a congenital abnormality. If not for the forces of the ride, the artery would not have likely caused issues in her life.

This is a relatively large artery. She probably died instantly. There would have been no chance of saving her life, even if a cardiovascular surgeon was sitting next to her on the ride.

Steve, the internal thoracic artery is not a coronary artery. It runs along the anterior wall of the chest. Although the left internal thoracic artery is commonly used by cardiovascular surgeons as a donor site while performing coronary artery bypass grafting.

The wooden coasters at HW are brutal, especially the Voyage. The ride may not have mal functioned, but it puts the body through a beating

It’s very sad her son was sitting beside her when this happened.
