Woman falls to her death from Chicago ferris wheel

Posted | Contributed by redman822

For reasons not immediately obvious, a woman fell from the 150-foot ferris wheel at Chicago's Navy Pier.

Read the story from the Chicago Sun Times.

Wow...that's freaky. I've always been terrified of ferris wheels for some reason. That's too bad :(

Who was at BGW on April 28th.
When I submitted this on Friday, the cause was "still under investigation". Well, the investigation has been completed, and it appears that this was a suicide. Check out the link below.

It had to have been suicide. The compartments you sit in are enclosed gondolas or whatever they are called.

Its a large Vekoma wheel EXACTLY what Darien Lake and Kentucky Kingdom have.

There is NO way you are coming out if you don't deliberately unlatch the doors.

Plus she was riding ALONE... Suicide? Perhaps...
God. Why would someone do this at a park. Could this have been a revenge on the park. I mean now nobody will go there any more because they will think it is not safe there.
I still think it's safe. As mentioned in the article that redman822 posted it was ruled suicide. What a sad and painful way to go...

Not to be cruel, but what an expensive way to go! Pay for park admission and all that... Yikes. But these types of incidents aren't unheard of, certainly. Or in a more morbid sense, not for revenge on the park, but to choose to do so in a place that always brought you happiness? Spooky.

Man, I would hate to be the one to see that. I mean no offense here, but......SPLAT.

It's a very sad situation indeed. Thank God she didn't hit anybody when she fell.

Its actually not a park. This Ferris Wheel is on Navy Pier in downtown Chicago. Its a private separate attraction along with a merry-go-round.
...and now that it has been ruled a suicide, I don't think there will be any reservations against the safety of the ride.

It's coming...
It's a very sad story. I even heard that the lady fell on one of the metel supports. Ouch!

maybe she was just impatient... i mean those things do take a while to unload.
ACK, and to think I was riding the same model at SFKK that day. It's an interesting way to go if you think about it, but it's tragic no less.

Ferris wheels freak me out too. I can go on the tallest hyper or giga and be fine but get me in a tall Ferris wheel and I get nervous! Thats sad to hear that it was suicide.
