Winners announced in the 2003 Coasters' Choice Awards

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

CoasterBuzz.com today released the results of the 2003 Coasters' Choice Awards(TM). Cedar Point and Knott's Berry Farm cleaned up this year with four and three wins, respectively.

Cedar Point won Park of the Year for the third straight year, a testament to the park's dedicated fan base. The park also won Best Steel Coaster for Millennium Force and again dominated for Best Capacity. In a surprising upset, Cedar Point beat out Busch Gardens Williamsburg for best food.

Knott's Berry Farm's new Intamin rocket coaster, Xcelerator, won Coaster of The Year and Best New Steel Coaster, while retaining its title for Ghostrider as Best Wood Coaster.

Following improvements around the park, Paramount's Kings Island made significant gains with The Beast and Son of Beast in the Best Wood category, following extensive maintenance in the previous off-season. The park scored its first nomination in the Best Theme category, presumably for its addition of Tomb Raider: The Ride.

European parks made a strong showing in the nominations this year, but failed to capture any awards, perhaps because the CoasterBuzz.com audience is predominantly from North America.

Universal's Islands of Adventure dominated for Best Theme again, despite any significant changes to the park since it opened.

Only three new wood coasters were eligible for the Best New Wood Coaster category, the prize going to one of CCI's last creations, The Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain at Indiana Beach.

Virtual Midway upset last year's Coaster Site of The Year winner, Twisted Rails, with its late-season coverage of Top Thrill Dragster construction at Cedar Point and extensive photo galleries of the park.

Get all of the results from the Coasters' Choice Awards section.

Before anyone starts complaining that they don't agree with the results or whatever, please note that it's just a poll, something to gauge interest in the big picture. That's all. If you don't agree with who won, say Best Steel Coaster, don't worry, 60% of voters didn't either.

Hanging chads were thrown out, by the way.

This is a ficticious best steel coaster! ;)

I still voted for it though. Then again, my experience is fairly limited. But just LOVE that last turn into the brake run. :)

"Know thyself!"

Go knotts!!!

I went to knotts last summer and i love the park, both Xcelerator and Ghostrider were GREAT coasters. And Ghostrider at night is so fun. I love Xcelerator, Ghostrider. but most of all i love knotts.

Which Pole do you agree with?
I have a suggestion for next year's poll. I think that the top two or three in each category (other than the new ones) should stay as options. That way more coasters and parks are available for choosing. Just a suggestion!

------------------
Top 3, no order: Ride of Steel (SFNE), Millennium Force, Batman (SFGAm)
Dear C. Sawyer: Please put SFGAm in the next RCT2 expansion pack!

Kinda like the Music/MTV industry, all the winnings of whatever are dominated by just a few out of the mass. It's basically brainwash programming, that's it. We all know what the best is/are. Where is the category for "most concrete per square inch award" (cedar point). Ok, I'm gonna stop ahead... just p's me off. Cedar Point best food??? Gimme a break! ok ok...
Thoughts:

Ghostrider beware, the Beast is catching up, boo ya!

Read my bottom line

CP best food!?! Dont get me wrong, its nice, but BGW, IOA, and Disney have it beat.

------------------
I don't care what anyone says, Magnum is better then Millenium Force.

I've been to CP, Disney, SFMM, SFGAd, SFNE, & my home park, SFGAm, and CP has the best food by far. Those gourmet pretzels...delicious.

Top 3, no order: Ride of Steel (SFNE), Millennium Force, Batman (SFGAm)
Dear C. Sawyer: Please put SFGAm in the next RCT2 expansion pack!

Touchdown: I Totally agree with you on that one IOA's food is the best. I think people just saw CP and voted for it! Didn't care what for because it CP! :)
Yeah... I think I miss-clicked with that Best Food thingy. Yeah... IOA is definately better than CP. Don't know why I clicked it. They theme their food, which is cool. I'm just going to go now. Yeah...

------------------
Beware, you may lose your glasses to THE BEAST!
Wooden-The Beast
Steel-Millenium Force
Inverted-Nemisis
Thrill Ride-Tomb Raider: The Ride

What can you Say CP continues to build the mold. Everyone else is just trying to keep up. All I have to say is Best new Coaster 2003 will be Top Thrill Dragster. With this, bumping MF out of the Top Steel coaster. Because it will take that honor too.
How did CP get best food? I mean it's good but not great. Their best food item is cheese on a stick. It's regular amusmant park food as opposed to the great meals that are well themed with the areas of the park. I have never been to IOA so I can't comment on the food there but the food at BGW was excellent.

Riding on top of the world with Cedar Point
